Contrary to popular opinion, I had an appalling experience at Alice’s Secret Traveller’s Inn. Levi’s cabin was grimy, dusty and cobwebby… I had to wash my cutlery and crockery prior to using it as it clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. A large plastic container was provided to store food inside as there was apparently a problem with mice at the hostel. There were remnants of food left in the box from prior guests which was a bit gross. I also woke up on my first morning there with insect bites all over my legs, ankles, feet, arms hands and elbows. As I had only been outside for a moment to walk to the kitchen and bathroom and was fully covered, it seemed I had been bitten in bed overnight. I reported it to Morgan, the lovely manager who was very kind and responsive however when she relayed my experience to the hostel owner who entered the reception area while I was present, he (Seb), became angry, defensive and accusatory, stating that there were 100% no bed bugs at the hostel and that I shouldn’t go reporting as such online because he needed to protect his business. I was absolutely astonished and replied to the effect that I wasn’t accusing them of anything, or planning to make a negative report, I was merely letting them know what had happened. I also replied that it was unreasonable to get angry with me for simply alerting them to the fact that I had seemingly been bitten by insects in bed. This was a completely extraordinary and unreasonable response, and as a solo female traveller, I believe, aimed to intimidate and bully me. I felt very unsafe staying there because of the bites and the way I had been treated and later checked out. Thankfully I had some friends in Alice Springs who kindly invited me to stay with them. I initially wasn’t planning on writing a negative review, but after the way I was spoken to by the business owner, I feel compelled to warn future travellers planning to stay at Alice’s Secret Traveller’s Inn.

Señales a revisar
