I got bitten by bedbugs. Then i checked the mattress and found some bedbugs and bedbug droppings in the seams. At first i thought it was isolated, but then near the end of my stay, i talked to another guest who stayed in another room and she also had bedbugs. So the hostel is infested. Also I once got woken up around 3 AM because an employee (or maybe it was the owner, someone referred to him by the nickname "bubbles") of the hostel was blasting music from a speaker that was next to our window on the other side of the wall. Couldn't sleep much afterwards. The hostel has quiet hours but they were ignored by the staff of the hostel to have a loud party at 3 AM.

Staff were lovely so I feel bad leaving a bad review but the cleanliness was actually a joke for the price. Free breakfast was toast and cold scrambled eggs. Also really far out of the town so i didn’t feel safe. I’ve also left with lots of suspicious looking bites. Not sure if bed bugs but wouldn’t be surprised.

They're the only place that rents scooters, so their initial price is in the sky. Try to negotiate it. The worse thing - they have bedbugs🤮 Not acceptable nowadays! They try very hard with free treats for guests, very impressive 👏 . But I had to take antihistamines 3 days after I left.

Yellow Belly Backpackers es una base social y de buen valor en San Ignacio con mucho pasando en el sitio: bar, zonas de jardín y deck para hangout, piscina, dardos, hamacas, una guitarra, lavandería, agua para rellenar, bicis gratis y actividades regulares por la noche. El mood es amable y normalmente fácil de sumarse sin convertirse en un party hostel total. El tour de ATM Cave es lo más destacado aquí. Se puede reservar a través del hostel, sale lo bastante temprano para evitar más tráfico en la cueva, y guías como Damien y Josiah le dan un filo fuerte de aventura-ciencia, con geología, arqueología y seguridad bien manejadas. El desayuno es una fortaleza real por el precio, con huevos, granola, fruta, tostadas, cereal, café, té, jugo y a veces frijoles o papas. Los dormitorios suelen ser espaciosos y pueden tener cortinas, lockers, enchufes junto a la cama, repisas, ventiladores personales y AC, aunque ese montaje no es consistente en cada cama o habitación. La ubicación es más tranquila que el centro y queda cerca de las ruinas de Cahal Pech, el Iguana Conservation Project, buses y comida cercana más barata. El tradeoff es la subida: el centro está a unos 15-20 minutos caminando, y volver puede sentirse como cardio bajo el sol caliente.
Señales a revisar
- Las habitaciones pueden ser calurosas o cargadas, y el acceso a AC puede ser limitado, inconsistente, débil o de costo extra según la habitación.
- Los baños son grandes, pero puede que no alcancen en horas punta, y la limpieza puede ser irregular.
- La cocina existe y puede ser útil, pero el equipamiento puede ser limitado o inconsistente.
- La ubicación en la colina es tranquila y práctica para Cahal Pech, pero menos conveniente para vida nocturna del centro o regresos tarde en solitario.
- El ruido puede viajar desde el bar, áreas exteriores, lavadora, eventos cercanos o socialización temprano por la mañana, especialmente en habitaciones traseras o superiores.
- Las camas, almohadas, colchones, sábanas e instalaciones antiguas pueden sentirse gastadas en algunas habitaciones.
