I don’t fully agree with all the very positive reviews. The hostel has a beautiful view, but the location is quite difficult to reach and there is nothing (no shops or restaurants) within walking distance.. Since uber/rapido are not working, you are very dependent on the local taxi services that were quite expensive. Once we entered the room, we noticed that it felt very humid and there was quite a strong mouldy smell. In addition, the bed contained many small bugs (not bedbugs, but still not very hygienic). To their credit, the staff changed the bedsheets immediately after we mentioned it. The bathroom hygiene was also disappointing, and the shower water had a brownish color. On the positive side, the restaurant service was good and the food was nice.

Terrible experience. Unwelcoming staff, barely giving attention, minimum attention. Our room had unpleasant smell from cleaning products and we had bedbugs. We had booked 2 nights and left after the first night even if we didn’t get a refund.. I was very surprised as we read such good reviews before choosing the Monkey Tribe… so it was a very disappointing stay, our only negative experience since we arrived in India. They for sure had been a change of management. I wouldn’t recommend it at all… we found for the same price much much better places.

Het boomnet op het terras is hier het kleine wacht, wat? detail: een sterrenkijkplek ingebouwd in een rooftopscene met groot uitzicht over de vallei, spelletjes, filmavonden en makkelijke sociale drift zonder volledige party-hostelchaos nodig te hebben. Monkey Tribe Munnar ligt buiten de stad in de heuvels en theelucht, met gemeenschappelijke ruimtes die solo reizen minder atomized kunnen laten voelen. Kamers zijn vaak ruim, met comfortabele bedden, balkons of bergzicht in delen van het gebouw, en een setup die het sterkst lijkt wanneer de basics kloppen: schone dorms, een goed dakterras, vriendelijk personeel en een restaurant dat de dag kan redden omdat er niet veel anders dichtbij is. Het eten is meestal een plus, vooral qua value, al kan de service op bergtempo bewegen. De locatie is tegelijk de magie en de frictie. Er is een steile aanpak, Munnar-stad ligt ongeveer een tuk-tuk-, bus- of scooterrit weg, en vervoer plannen doet ertoe. De verborgen watervalwandeling dichtbij is een echte bonus, met zwemkans, en het hostel kan helpen met tours of groepsuitjes, al loopt de organisatie niet altijd soepel.
Signalen om te checken
- Het hostel ligt aan een steile heuvel buiten Munnar, dus vervoer plannen is belangrijk, vooral met bagage.
- Restaurantservice kan traag zijn, en het menu kan soms beperkt of deels niet beschikbaar zijn.
- Warm water en waterkwaliteit zijn wisselvallig geweest.
- Geluid van dakterrasruimtes, receptie of muziek kan doordringen tot kamers, ook laat in de nacht of vroeg in de ochtend.
- Onderhoud en netheid kunnen ongelijk zijn in badkamers, spelmateriaal, gymspullen en privékamers.
