Hostal Forestal has a great location and the hostel seemed very nice at first. It took me 2-3 nights into my stay to realize that I wasn’t covered in mosquito bites, but had been sleeping in a bed with bedbugs. I’m attaching a picture of just my hands which both have trails of small red bug bites. I also have bug bites on my face and ankles, which are common places where bedbugs bite. I understand this isn’t necessarily the fault of the hostel, but it’s one of the worst case scenarios while traveling. I was given a new bed in a different room after I reported this to them. No refund was given. I had no problems with bedbugs in my previous hostel so I can only assume it came from Hostal Forestal. The bathrooms were also not very clean, in particular the floors were pretty dirty. Unfortunately I would recommend staying with a different hostel in Santiago.

Was staying during the protests, staff were supportive in ensuring everyone was safe. Some members of staff were more knowledgeable about the local area than others. Beds were comfortable. Each room had a set of lockers and electric points (though some in awkward locations). There is a social area and free breakfast. I'm pretty sure there were bedbugs though. First hostel I went to on my trip, and the only night during the holiday I've woken up with bites.

Gitaar en zingen bij de receptie kunnen deel uitmaken van de Hostal Forestal ervaring. Het kan de plek een sociaal huisgevoel geven, maar het betekent ook dat lawaai laat in de nacht of vroeg in de ochtend in de nabijgelegen kamers kan lekken, vooral rond de ingang, de receptie, de trap en gemeenschappelijke ruimtes. De locatie is de schoonste overwinning: het centrum van Santiago, dicht bij Lastarria, Bellavista, parken, restaurants, bars en metrostations zoals Baquedano of Bellas Artes. Het personeel kan warm en behulpzaam zijn, met bagagehulp, lokale tips en praktische oplossingen als echte sterke punten. Er is een gedeelde keuken en het ontbijt varieert van fatsoenlijk en volhoudend tot eenvoudig, met eieren, brood, fruit, granen, koffie, thee of eenvoudige spreads, afhankelijk van de dag. De afweging is het gebouw. Kamers kunnen klein, oud, koud, vochtig, verstopt of slecht geventileerd zijn en de geluidsisolatie is zwak. Bedden, kussens, handdoeken, vloeren, badkamers, afvoer, warm water, ventilatoren en wifi zijn inconsistent, dus dit werkt beter als een goedkope centrale tussenstop dan een restauratiebasis.
Signalen om te checken
- Lichte slapers moeten kamers vermijden in de buurt van de receptie, de ingang, de trap of gemeenschappelijke ruimtes.
- Het warme water kan onbetrouwbaar zijn en de afvoer van badkamers of de geur van rioolwater kan een probleem zijn.
- Schoonheid en de kwaliteit van het beddengoed zijn niet gelijk; het risico van bedwantsen of insecten is het waard serieus te nemen.
- Betaling, overboeking, ruil van kamers, bagageopslag en terugbetaling kunnen extra voorzichtigheid vereisen.
