Hostal Forestal has a great location and the hostel seemed very nice at first. It took me 2-3 nights into my stay to realize that I wasn’t covered in mosquito bites, but had been sleeping in a bed with bedbugs. I’m attaching a picture of just my hands which both have trails of small red bug bites. I also have bug bites on my face and ankles, which are common places where bedbugs bite. I understand this isn’t necessarily the fault of the hostel, but it’s one of the worst case scenarios while traveling. I was given a new bed in a different room after I reported this to them. No refund was given. I had no problems with bedbugs in my previous hostel so I can only assume it came from Hostal Forestal. The bathrooms were also not very clean, in particular the floors were pretty dirty. Unfortunately I would recommend staying with a different hostel in Santiago.

Was staying during the protests, staff were supportive in ensuring everyone was safe. Some members of staff were more knowledgeable about the local area than others. Beds were comfortable. Each room had a set of lockers and electric points (though some in awkward locations). There is a social area and free breakfast. I'm pretty sure there were bedbugs though. First hostel I went to on my trip, and the only night during the holiday I've woken up with bites.

La guitarra y el canto alrededor de la recepción pueden ser parte de la experiencia Forestal Hostal. Puede dar al lugar una sensación de casa social, pero también significa que el ruido puede filtrarse a las habitaciones cercanas a altas horas de la noche o temprano en la mañana, especialmente alrededor de la entrada, recepción, escaleras y áreas comunes. La ubicación es la más limpia: el centro de Santiago, cerca de Lastarria, Bellavista, parques, restaurantes, bares y paradas de metro como Baquedano o Bellas Artes. El personal puede ser cálido y servicial, con ayuda de equipaje, consejos locales y soluciones prácticas como verdaderos puntos fuertes. Hay una cocina compartida, y el desayuno va desde decente y saciante hasta básico, con huevos, pan, frutas, cereales, café, té o comidas sencillas dependiendo del día. La compensación es el edificio. Las habitaciones pueden ser pequeñas, viejas, frías, húmedas, congestionadas o mal ventiladas, y el aislamiento acústico es débil. Las camas, almohadas, toallas, pisos, baños, alcantarillas, agua caliente, ventiladores y Wi-Fi son inconsistentes, por lo que esto funciona mejor como una parada central barata que una base de restauración.
Señales a revisar
- Los que duermen poco deben evitar las habitaciones cercanas a la recepción, la entrada, las escaleras o las áreas comunes.
- El agua caliente puede ser poco fiable, y el drenaje del baño o los olores de las aguas residuales pueden ser un problema.
- La limpieza y la calidad de la ropa de cama son inconsistentes; vale la pena tomar en serio el riesgo de chinches o insectos.
- El pago, el exceso de reservas, el intercambio de habitaciones, el almacenamiento de equipaje y los reembolsos pueden requerir una precaución especial.
