Totally normal, decent hostel - I was a little thrown by the existing reviews being so sharply divided between "best ever!" and terrible, so wanted to add a middle ground. The location is good - just off a main street with bus stops, 5 minute walk to the boardwalk, ~10 minutes to Agya Sofya; there are lots of bars/cafes/restaurants around - building is well insulated for regular street/restaurant noise, but if a nightclub is having a big thumping party, it'll come through. The building itself is a little odd -- feels kind of half empty and half renovated, but all the basics are solid ; effective AC, enough bathrooms; hot water; clean; comfy beds. They've definitely fixed whatever bedbug problem from the reviews a few years ago. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Careful, bedbugs! Our stay was an absolute disaster. We had bedbugs in the entire room, the jetpak team did not at all help us with that, as we were not even allowed to use their washing machine, even though it was in the middle of the night. The German couple who owns the place promised us a refund, which we never got. After we got back home we emailed them repeatedly but they responded that it’s not their problem. Thessaloniki is lovely but stay as far away as possible from this place:)

Bed bugs! After a night with bed bugs we never got our money back – even though the hosts agreed on a reimbursement. Never got an answers on our emails. Really disappointing!

Terrible experience. Our entire room was infested with bed bugs- for quite some time, judging from the smell and marks on the matresses. The owners promised us a refund. To this day (months later) we have not received any money despite many reminders and emails. Would not recommed to stay here if you can avoid.

Jetpak Alternative is een centrale basis in Thessaloniki in een oud gebouw vol karakter, dicht bij bars, restaurants, openbaar vervoer, de waterfront en de belangrijkste sights van de stad. De kamers zijn de grote trekker: ruime dorms, hoge plafonds, royale stapelbedden, lockers, schone badkamers en veel vloerruimte waardoor het minder gepropt voelt dan een standaard beddenmagazijn. Ochtendkoffie hoort hier bij het ritme, en de plek kan ongewoon persoonlijk aanvoelen. De hosts zijn hands-on met stadstips, gesprekken, kleine behulpzame gebaren en een warm welkom. Katya de hond is er ook vaak bij, een huiselijk klein chaosknooppunt voor wie van hostelhuisdieren houdt. Het dakterras is echt een feature, soms met katten, en de lounge/common areas werken goed om te hangen, lezen, gamen, films te kijken of licht te werken. De sociale kant is gemengd: het kan vriendelijk zijn en makkelijk om contact te maken, vooral met de juiste crowd of vrijwilligers, maar het is geen hostel met geprogrammeerde activiteiten en kan buiten het seizoen erg stil voelen. Dit is een goede match voor reizigers die centraal, schoon, ruim, low-key, licht alternatief en menselijk gerund willen. Het is minder ideaal voor wie stilte, een volledig uitgeruste self-catering keuken, gepolijste hotelenergie of gegarandeerde avondlijke sociale circuits nodig heeft.
Signalen om te checken
- De centrale locatie ligt bij bars en clubs, dus straatgeluid en bas kunnen in sommige kamers een echt slaapprobleem zijn, vooral ’s nachts.
- De sociale sfeer is wisselvallig; er kunnen geen georganiseerde activiteiten zijn en rustige periodes kunnen bijna leeg aanvoelen.
- Keuken- en laundrytoegang kunnen beperkt zijn, en kookfaciliteiten zijn een terugkerend zwak punt geweest.
- Sommige zones kunnen onaf of in renovatie aanvoelen, met af en toe issues rond gordijnen, verlichting, badkamersensoren, doucheafvoer of krakende bedden.
- Een serieus bedwantsenprobleem komt voor begin 2023. Recentere schoonmaakpatronen zijn veel sterker, en het oude issue lijkt tegen 2025 opgelost.
- Het hostel heeft een hond op locatie, charmant voor sommigen en niet ideaal voor iedereen.
