Totally normal, decent hostel - I was a little thrown by the existing reviews being so sharply divided between "best ever!" and terrible, so wanted to add a middle ground. The location is good - just off a main street with bus stops, 5 minute walk to the boardwalk, ~10 minutes to Agya Sofya; there are lots of bars/cafes/restaurants around - building is well insulated for regular street/restaurant noise, but if a nightclub is having a big thumping party, it'll come through. The building itself is a little odd -- feels kind of half empty and half renovated, but all the basics are solid ; effective AC, enough bathrooms; hot water; clean; comfy beds. They've definitely fixed whatever bedbug problem from the reviews a few years ago. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Careful, bedbugs! Our stay was an absolute disaster. We had bedbugs in the entire room, the jetpak team did not at all help us with that, as we were not even allowed to use their washing machine, even though it was in the middle of the night. The German couple who owns the place promised us a refund, which we never got. After we got back home we emailed them repeatedly but they responded that it’s not their problem. Thessaloniki is lovely but stay as far away as possible from this place:)

Bed bugs! After a night with bed bugs we never got our money back – even though the hosts agreed on a reimbursement. Never got an answers on our emails. Really disappointing!

Terrible experience. Our entire room was infested with bed bugs- for quite some time, judging from the smell and marks on the matresses. The owners promised us a refund. To this day (months later) we have not received any money despite many reminders and emails. Would not recommed to stay here if you can avoid.

Vibe Analysis
Jetpak Alternative is a central Thessaloniki base in an old, character-heavy building, close to bars, restaurants, public transport, the waterfront, and the main city sights. The rooms are the big draw: spacious dorms, tall ceilings, roomy bunks, lockers, clean bathrooms, and plenty of floor space make it feel less squeezed than a standard bunk warehouse. Morning coffee is part of the rhythm here, and the place can feel unusually personal. The hosts are hands-on with city tips, conversation, small helpful gestures, and a warm welcome. Katya the dog is often around too, adding a homely little chaos node for anyone who likes hostel pets. The rooftop terrace is a real feature, sometimes with cats, and the lounge/common areas work for hanging out, reading, games, movies, or light work. The social side is mixed: it can be friendly and easy to connect, especially when the right crowd or volunteers are around, but it is not a programmed activity hostel and can feel very quiet off-season. This is a good fit for travelers who want central, clean, spacious, low-key, slightly alternative, and human-run. It is less ideal for anyone who needs silence, a fully equipped self-catering kitchen, polished hotel energy, or guaranteed nightly social circuitry.

- The central location sits near bars and clubs, so street noise and bass can be a real sleep problem in some rooms, especially at night.
- The social atmosphere is inconsistent; there may be no organized activities and quiet periods can feel almost empty.
- Kitchen and laundry access may be limited, and cooking facilities have been a recurring weak spot.
- Some areas can feel unfinished or under renovation, with occasional issues around curtains, lighting, bathroom sensors, shower drainage, or creaky beds.
- A serious bedbug issue appears in early 2023. More recent cleanliness patterns are much stronger, and the old issue seems to have been fixed by 2025.
- The hostel has a dog on site, which is charming for some people and not ideal for everyone.
