Hostel & Bar De Basis
Vibe Analysis
Bennies, the bar and restaurant downstairs, is one of De Basis' clearest draws: it gives the place an easy food-and-drink base, with breakfast and a lively night scene close to the rooms. The hostel is also in a very central Zwolle spot, walkable from the station and right by the city center, so it works well for short visits on foot or public transport. The setup is simple and hostel-leaning rather than hotel-like. Rooms can be clean, warm enough, and comfortable for one or two nights, with friendly staff and a basic kitchen available. Some rooms are spacious, but others are tight, spare, and light on furniture, storage, bedside lamps, glasses, soap, or work space. Laundry may be available. This is best for travelers who want central Zwolle, a bar downstairs, and a practical bed more than quiet polish. It can feel social and convenient, but the building also carries street sound, hallway sound, door noise, and weekend bar energy into the rooms.
Signals to check
- Rooms can be noisy, especially on Friday or Saturday nights, with sound from the street, hallway, doors, and the downstairs bar.
- Showers may use a short push-button timer, limited pressure, fixed temperature, or a wet-room layout that leaves the bathroom floor soaked.
- Some rooms are very basic, small, cold, or short on furniture and storage.
- Plastic mattress covers and loose sheets can make sleep hot, noisy, or uncomfortable.
- There may be bedbug risk; check current room status before booking.
