Bed bug reports

Location This was one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. The hotel is not clean, the facilities are in very poor condition, and the overall standard is unacceptable. We had to change rooms more than six times, but unfortunately, every room we were given was either as bad as or worse than the previous one. The beds and bedding were extremely concerning, and we found what appeared to be fleas/bedbugs (puces) in the beds. This made it impossible to sleep comfortably and left us extremely worried about hygiene. The bathrooms were also in very poor condition, with old and poorly maintained facilities. There was no fridge in the room, which is a serious inconvenience, especially for a family staying several days. Despite repeatedly asking for a suitable and clean room, the situation was never properly resolved. Changing rooms six or more times should never be necessary in a hotel. The pictures and description do not reflect the actual condition of the hotel. The level of cleanliness, maintenance and hygiene is far below an acceptable standard. We strongly recommend that Booking.com and the hotel management take this situation seriously and inspect the rooms and bedding properly. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this hotel to other travellers.

Size of the room was ok. Walls are paper thin, you can hear the people in the next room. Each time the toilet needed flushing at least 4 times. I found bed bugs on my last morning on my pillow.

Nothing BED BUGS AND HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Still have not gotten my refund from them even after getting in touch with booking and providing evidence of bed bugs and damages. Disgustingly dirty, hair everywhere, broken furniture, dirty sheets, dirty everything.

Vibe Analysis
Hotel Esplanade is a budget, transit-first base in Strasbourg, set right by the tram and within a walk or quick ride of the center, the university area, Carrefour Express, bakeries, restaurants, and nearby services. It works best as a short, practical stop when location matters more than polish. The useful bits are simple: reception can be kind and helpful, luggage storage may be possible, late arrival can work, and rooms may include a kettle with tea or coffee. Room size varies; a few are spacious, while others are small or very basic. There is a lift, though it may not serve every floor cleanly. The tradeoff is serious. The building feels old and tired, with thin walls, tram and street noise, worn furniture, inconsistent cleanliness, tired mattresses, bathroom smells, patchy hot water, and weak heating or cooling depending on the season. In hot weather, lack of air conditioning can make rooms uncomfortable, especially if opening the window brings tram noise inside.
Signals to check
- Very poor sound insulation; tram, street, corridor, and neighboring-room noise can make sleep difficult.
- Cleanliness and maintenance are inconsistent, including bathrooms, bedding, towels, furniture, windows, and shared areas.
- Heating, cooling, hot water, shower fittings, and bathroom odors may be unreliable.
- Breakfast is simple and may feel overpriced for the quality.
- Rooms may differ from photos and can feel old, small, or poorly equipped.
