STAY CLEAR OF THIS HOSTEL! The beds are full of bed bugs. They haven't changed the mattresses in a long long time.

Horrible! I was bitten by bed bugs. This hostel is so filthy. I've been at third floor. All the rooms are with carpets who smell intensity to stinky feet.I was totally shocked when I've arrived. My expectations were little higher because of all the good reviews which I cannot understand at all. I stayed in a 4 bed room. I only could survive that time because of nice people I've met. But also some roommate has stolen money from me - it ruined it again. The staff is so unprofessional and unmotivated of helping your organization things- they are good in talking though. But I did not feel like in a big family at all.Maybe when the alcoholism starts. The only positive thing: when I told Hannah about the bedbugs she really helped me out. But yah, that is no reason being totally thankfull. They also lied about the fact that towels are included. It costs 500 huf plus 500huf rent. The "apartment" I've got to stay was so running down. You have to do you dishes( of course :).) but have no towels to dry your hands afterwards the same in toilet. I asked for some twice but nothing happened. i know it is low budget but ruined my whole trip.never do party hostel again! Such a chaos und always having hangover because I haven't get some sleep in the stupid bedbugged bed!

Vibe Analysis
Vitae Hostel is a small, very social Budapest base with about 60 beds, set up for meeting travellers fast and heading into the 7th District nightlife. Staff run daily and nightly activities, drinking games, bar crawls, club nights, and sometimes bigger nights like party boats, with staff often joining the action instead of just sending everyone out. The hostel works best for solo travellers and groups who want a busy, easy-to-join scene. There are several common areas, a balcony for sun, a big kitchen, and a relaxed house-party feel where it can be simple to find someone for a night out or a city wander. The location is central enough for walking to a lot of Budapest, with food, bars, and transport nearby. There is even a SNES, which fits the place: scrappy, social, and more about hanging around together than polished hotel energy. Vitae can feel like one big shared apartment when it is working well, with friendly staff, bag storage after checkout, basic breakfast supplies at times, and a WhatsApp group used for plans. This is not a quiet comfort pick. It is better read as a party hostel with a strong social engine, uneven facilities, and a young crowd. Come for nights out, fast friendships, and low-friction Budapest chaos; pick elsewhere for sleep, privacy, spotless bathrooms, or a calm reset.
Signals to check
- Noise can run late, especially when party groups return after club nights.
- Cleanliness and maintenance can be uneven, with recurring issues around bathrooms, showers, dorm smells, floors, and worn beds.
- Lockers may be small, broken, or missing in some rooms, so valuables need extra care.
- The hostel can be hard to find inside an older building, and stairs may be part of the deal when the lift is unreliable.
- Privacy is limited: dorm beds may not have curtains, and some rooms can be cramped or hot in summer.
- This place is strongly party-oriented, so it may feel uncomfortable if drinking nights are not your thing.
- There may be an age policy around older travellers; check directly before booking.
