Explain how it works
We compare every 5★ review's word count against the global distribution. Hostels where unusually many top-rated reviews are suspiciously short — way under the typical length — start to look like the staff (or a boost-my-listing service) is padding the score with throwaway praise.
The detector flags reviews that are both top-rated and below a length threshold, then estimates how many of them statistically shouldn't exist. For this hostel we scanned 992 top-rated reviews and 1% were suspiciously short.
Length z-score: 6.94. A z-score measures how far this hostel's distribution of 5★ review lengths sits from the global average, in standard deviations. 0 = perfectly typical. 1–2 = slightly unusual but within normal noise. 3–5 = strongly anomalous. Anything 10+ means the pattern is so far from the global norm that it's effectively impossible to get there organically.
This is a heuristic, not a verdict — it surfaces hostels worth a second look, not proof of fraud. Read the actual reviews below and judge for yourself.

Excellent location, very close to the Shard and the food market, and not a long walk from the Underground. The capsule beds were interesting and private enough, the RGB lighting was a fun touch (though the upper part of the lighting didn’t work for my capsule). The bar had great food and drinks, albeit at London prices. Staff were friendly enough, and the toilets/showers were nice and clean. This is a party hostel; I don’t know what I expected. The music turns off at 3am, and unless you’re completely exhausted, you’re not sleeping until then. I was in the bar, and I couldn’t even talk to people because of how loud the music was. I’m saying this as someone in my 20s; I doubted the reviews and paid for it. You also need to download an app for the key and input some info, but eh.

The worst hostel I have ever stayed in by far. Everything was so loud and dirty. It was overrun with groups of high schoolers having parties at all hours. There was shouting in the bar, sirens, and people talking constantly. Someone’s alarm went off for 10 minutes straight while they were in the shower. There was toilet paper stuck to the walls in the bathroom among other messes. I had to check out earlier than expected because their sandpaper like sheets where giving me a rash. And breakfast wasn’t included in my booking. Their privacy curtains only cover 3/4 of the bed so you won’t get any privacy but you will get some mood lighting from the fluorescent personal lights of everyone in the room at 1am. I think it’s worth noting that they give a free shot for positive reviews, so take those with a grain of salt.

We got a good sized locker in the bedroom And the chargers by the beds works. There was an app to use as a key and it was pretty good. One out of two toilets could not be locked in the bar. One toilet was disgusting with pee on seat and actual poo on the wall. Toilet seat broken and loose. Very bad ammount of bathrooms by the bedrooms. Beds make sound when someone moves, hitting the adjacent bed The top bunk has no roof, so all light hits your eyes. The roof has a glass window, which lets in light in the morning. They did not have blindfolds. The Beds are so close to each other that if you're in the top bunk and sit up, you can see your neighbour sleeping. Bottom bunks, when there were two beds right next to each other, had a wall between to separate them, BUT there was a solid 20cm gap at the side so even in the lower bunks you can see your neighbour and they see you. I am sound sensitive. And the charger things in the beds all made these insanely awful, very loud, high-pitched noices. The one in my bed specifically made a weird beeping sound i haven't heard from electricity before, and it kinda freaked me out a tad bit. From the pictures, we were expecting capsules. No pictures of the large rooms with bunk beds (35 beds in total) like in the show squid game. We felt cheated by the false advertisement. Bad aircondition in the room, very warm The water was virtually undrinkable. No warm water in sinks, not sure about the shower water. Not wheelchair accessible Bribes us with a shot to write a good review Claustrophobic!! Designed to be a labyrinth, we got lost even after days there.
