Le Mat Hostel sits in a beautiful old Ottoman-style building near Larnaca’s beach, old town, castle, restaurants, bars, and bus links. The place has more character than a standard bunk factory: high ceilings, vintage decor, art and repurposed pieces, a courtyard with greenery, and Tarot-card details on doors and beds. The setup is practical for a short city-and-sea stop. There is a shared kitchen, filtered water, communal space, self check-in, lockers, towels, WiFi, and bunks with lamps, outlets, and curtains. Lower bunks usually seem more private than upper bunks, which may only have partial curtains. The social side is uneven. At its best, the common areas, courtyard, music, and occasional hostel energy make it easy to meet others; at quieter times it can feel calm, remote-work friendly, or low on atmosphere. Staff presence is limited, especially later in the day, though help by message can be responsive. This is a characterful, central Larnaca base with real charm, but it is not polished. The building’s age is part of the appeal and part of the friction: insulation, bathrooms, AC control, and night noise can all affect the stay.
