I did book this place for a week. When I arrived it was one big mess. I understand there’s music in this kind of hostel, but I just couldn’t hear the guy who works there who I checked in with. Unfortunately I paid before I saw my room/ bunkbed. First the music. Yes it’s a party hostel, but my room was next to the dj (or speakers) and it was unbearable from my room so loud. Now the main thing. The hygiene in my room. The wall next to my bed was full of dirty spots, curtains broken and the worst, an insect in my bed (I hope no bed bug). And there was no space for my stuff besides my bag under a bed shared with someone else. I had to stay for the night as it was really late, but I left immediately in the morning. I booked for a week, so would like a refund. Unfortunately the company ignores their emails. See pictures.

There was bed bugs in this hostel. I am currently paying for my bags and all luggage to be sanitised and checked. As soon as I showed the hostel workers they did not offer any support, guidance or help, nor a refund, but simply removed my mattress from the room. The bathrooms are really dirty and smell bad. If you are planning on staying here don’t, it’s not worth it. To give context, I’ve never before left a negative review on a place I’ve stayed and I’ve stayed in over 50 hostels. Avoid

I had so much fun here. Met the most amazing people. We did have to move rooms due to someone finding a bed bug in her bed, but it was only one. (we looked around for more) I’d honestly stay here again. Great atmosphere ✨

Bedbugs. Offered a ‘free breakfast’ as compensation then upon email was offered a full refund - they refunded one night of my two night stay and have been unresponsive to email since. Rooms are small and crowded, the bar is right outside the rooms so very noisy even when there is no one around and no vibe.

Good vibes overall, staffs was nice and friendly. Only thing that was bad from my experience was the cleanliness of the bed, i got bed bugs bite and the pillowcase had a sweat odor that seemed like they didn’t not replace it.

Best location, near alchemy, and arabica coffee. I like the cleanliness of the facility and no bed bugs This is a social hostel so expect it to be loud. But you cannot hear the music inside the room. So I recommend you to stay upstairs. More peaceful. I just didn’t like my experience about some group of girls went into our room and made some noise and tried to open the curtain of my bed. so everyone who’s going to any hostel please have a respect and be kind and nice. That’s it. I have to commend Naz

BED BUGS. The bed bugs are out of their control, however, only one girl in our room had evidence of bed bugs but they took all of our luggage to wash (which was ok) but said it would come back that evening, it didn’t, so we couldn’t go out. Then the next morning when we checked our stuff - they had LOST some of our belongings. After hours of them saying they were looking for it all I had to leave to my next place. Not only do I not have some of my belongings but one of the staff members was so rude. It’s a shame because it could have all been avoided.

Fun place. Avoid room 103, BEDBUGS, there were 3 different beds that we found bed bugs in them and all they did was change the sheets or offer to switch the rooms but then just put another person in the same bed.

For a new ish hostel, it was quite dirty. The location is great so it is still worth staying in for this, especially if you don’t have a scooter. But given how expensive it is, it should definitely be cleaner. I stayed here back in July and there were bed bugs in my dorm - the staff didn’t take our complaints seriously at all. Hopefully it’s better since then.

The location and staff were amazing. Comfortable bed. A really social hostel and very party focused. Quite expensive tho, especially given how small the rooms are. I had bed bugs in my bed but at least the staff was really helpful and made sure to change linnen and spray it with bug spray.

shortly after I arrived I discovered there are bedbugs in my bed. It didn't seem to interest the staff too much. I could change to another room, but apart from that nothing happened to deal with the bedbugs. I had the impression that one staff member even found it a bit funny, could be due to bad English, but in total a weird vibe

Vibe Analysis
Lay Day Hostel Uluwatu is built around the pool, the bar, and a nightly party rhythm. It can work well for a loud social trip in Uluwatu, especially for younger travelers or groups who want drinking games, events, DJs, and an easy base near restaurants, beaches, and local attractions. The pool area is one of the strongest parts of the place, and the setup has a modern, resort-like feel. Beds can be comfortable, with curtains in dorms, and the location makes it practical for exploring Uluwatu without feeling tucked away from the action. The social scene is high-volume and not universally warm. It can be easy to meet people when the crowd clicks, but it can also feel cliquey, group-heavy, and more hookup-party than backpacker community. Staff energy is mixed: there are friendly, helpful moments, but service at reception, the bar, and food service can be slow or uneven.
Signals to check
- Music can be very loud through the day and late at night, sometimes making sleep or normal conversation difficult.
- Dorm rooms can be cramped, with limited space for bags and small lockers or awkward storage.
- Bathrooms and shared areas can get dirty quickly, with recurring issues around wet floors, toilet paper, shower doors, and towel availability.
- Food and bar service may be slow, and food quality has been inconsistent enough to be a real caution.
- Security, door locks, wristbands, and room access have been inconsistent, so valuables need extra care.
- Ants, bedbugs, stained bedding, and uneven room cleaning have all been serious problems at times.
