Explain how it works
We compare every 5★ review's word count against the global distribution. Hostels where unusually many top-rated reviews are suspiciously short — way under the typical length — start to look like the staff (or a boost-my-listing service) is padding the score with throwaway praise.
The detector flags reviews that are both top-rated and below a length threshold, then estimates how many of them statistically shouldn't exist. For this hostel we scanned 1344 top-rated reviews and 1% were suspiciously short.
Length z-score: 9.04. A z-score measures how far this hostel's distribution of 5★ review lengths sits from the global average, in standard deviations. 0 = perfectly typical. 1–2 = slightly unusual but within normal noise. 3–5 = strongly anomalous. Anything 10+ means the pattern is so far from the global norm that it's effectively impossible to get there organically.
This is a heuristic, not a verdict — it surfaces hostels worth a second look, not proof of fraud. Read the actual reviews below and judge for yourself.

ratings for price, cleanliness, free breakfast
Nice hotel for price, location, and cleanliness. This hotel is one block from the Copacabana beach. I would recommend this hotel to single travelers, couples and groups of three to four people. I give them high ratings for price, cleanliness, free breakfast, the large room with refrigerator, flat screen tv, the bed was comfortable and many of their staff members spoke English and was overall helpful. The cons was the ability to hear people from the hallway room, view from the room is not nice, and no parking. The breakfast was basic: cereal, sausage, eggs, fruits, bread, coffee and milk, since it is included in the price ($45 USD), I really can’t complain. The pros completely outweigh the cons. So I would recommend this hotel if your looking for an affordable place to stay in the Copacabana area with a group of friends.

Vibe Analysis
CLH Suites Copacabana @ Domingos Ferreira is a beach-location play, full stop. The useful part is obvious: it sits very close to Copacabana, with restaurants, bars, shops, pharmacies, supermarkets, and metro access around it. Some stays also landed large rooms, good showers, decent breakfast, upper-floor views, luggage storage, and genuinely helpful front-desk staff. The vibe is more practical crash pad than hangout hostel. It can work for a short Rio stop if the priority is sleeping near the beach and spending most of the day outside. Do not book it expecting a social scene, polish, or a cozy design moment; even the better stays tend to come back to the location first. The tradeoffs are serious and recent. The building and rooms are repeatedly described as old, under-maintained, and different from the photos; cleaning is inconsistent, with many complaints about bathrooms, sheets, towels, smells, mold, insects, and stained linens. Noise is also a pattern: loud or weak air-conditioning, thin windows, street or bar noise, elevator machinery, and construction have made sleep rough. Elevators are a recurring pain, especially for higher floors, and Wi-Fi can be poor or unusable. Confirm payment, breakfast, and check-in details before arrival, keep screenshots or receipts, and have a backup plan if you are not flexible.
Signals to check
- Cleaning and linens are a real risk: bathrooms, sheets, towels, smells, and occasional insects show up repeatedly.
- Rooms can feel old, bare, and badly maintained, with bathroom leaks, mold, broken fixtures, and photos that may not match the room.
- Elevators are a recurring pain; higher floors can mean long waits, cramped rides, or stairs.
- Sleep can be rough because of noisy or weak air-conditioning, thin windows, street noise, elevator noise, or construction.
- Wi-Fi can be weak or unusable, especially in rooms.
- Confirm payment, breakfast, and check-in details in advance; surprise charges, breakfast confusion, and self check-in friction have all happened.
- Check that the room locks properly; there are recent reports of bad keys, open doors, and room access mistakes.
