BED BUGS, do not stay here! A friend and I stayed here for a night and discovered that the bunk bed we were sleeping in was infested with bed bugs. While the hostel compensated her for cleaning costs, they did not do the same for me as I was unable to report the issue in person due to an early flight and “lack of evidence” that I had been affected despite having slept in the contaminated bed (which they removed the next day). Do not stay here, there are countless better options in Lima and it’s not worth the time and expense of having to deal with bed bugs while traveling.

Here is my honest review for my stay at the end of May 2026. The staff and volunteers were very friendly and breakfast was good! :) The showers are warm after you wait for 5 minutes. The area was not the best and I didn’t feel safe at night alone outside the hostel as a woman. I had bedbugs bites after the first night at an 8-bed dorm. I told the receptionist and they did everything to deep clean the room, transferred me to another room and washed my things for free. Also I got a refund.

30 min drive from bus terminal but a cute spot! breakfast was just bread and fruit but there’s free bread in the kitchen 24/7! the big dorm only had 2 outlets for the whole room & i didn’t see any bedbugs (i always check). there were cats, hot showers, and lots of nice ppl. location is right next to payed museum, a couple blocks away from some fun clubs & 30 min walk from historic district. a free walking tour meets at the hostel @10am (thank you Christian!)

El personal es muy atento y amable. El edificio tiene mucho potencial pero está bastante descuidado. Supongo que por el precio que pagué no me puedo quejar por el decepcionante desayuno que dan. Pero hay otras áreas de oportunidad a considerar. La habitación que me tocó (la uno), sospecho que es la peor porque la ventilación es mala, tiene un olor extraño y da justamente a la calle que es excesivamente ruidosa. Si quieren descansar, este no es el sitio adecuado. La cama que me dieron era vieja y la ropa de cama tenía manchas. La almohada olía mal. Repito, por el precio quizá no tenga caso quejarse, pero sí son aspectos que, hasta por limpieza y prevención de chinches, deberían de considerar.

The location is pretty good. The dorms are not locked so that lowers the safety. Not all the beds have lights and the outlets. Not many events were going on and there’s not many opportunities to socialise. Also, some of the showers are not working. There was also a bug in the bed.

立地は観光地に近いため便利。 南京虫が居ました。夜に南京虫が出たのでベットを移動したいと伝えても、ベットは空いていないの一点張り。夜なので他の宿に移動も出来ないので何度もお願いし、匂いのキツいMIXドミへ。ベット空いてるじゃん。と思いつつなんとか夜を凌ぎました。2度も行きません。Bed bugs。

Honest review-stay here only if you need a cheap bed and don’t care about anything else. I had many bug bites in my sleep and im not sure if they are from bed bugs or mosquitoes. The kitchen is disgusting and is never cleaned. Someone boiled potatoes in the kettle and it was not cleaned for the next two days. There were only 2 forks and 1 spoon available. Additionally, they give you a free welcome drink coupon when you arrive for one pilsen beer, but the bar was out of this specific beer and we never receiv

Staff was super nice and helpful when I first arrived, met some cool people there on the rooftop too. I only stayed for two nights and on the second night I brought up the concern of bed bugs and they did look at the bed but tried dismissing it on mosquito bites, which I know the difference of and that wasn’t it. They gave me bug spray to sleep with and I still woke up with two more bites. Stayed in the female dorm March 17, so just be careful to anyone who stays in that dorm.
Vibe Analysis
1900 Backpackers Hostel is the old-mansion, central Lima option: big historic bones, vintage common spaces, a rooftop/terrace, breakfast, and easy access to the art museum, shopping mall, restaurants, grocery runs, and the historic center. The best version here is practical and slightly chaotic: cheap bed, friendly reception or cleaning staff when you catch the good shifts, free walking tours/activities, a rooftop that can work for a chill evening, and enough odd house energy from the cats, dog, and building itself to keep it from feeling generic. The fun/social read is uneven. There are activities, a bar/cafe, and rooftop moments, but it does not consistently land as a backpacker social machine; solo travelers may find the hangout momentum thin, and common areas can close earlier than expected. It works better for travelers who want a budget base near central Lima culture than for anyone needing a guaranteed scene. Treat the building as beautiful but worn. Rooms vary a lot: some are clean/comfy enough, others can be hot, cold, damp, dark, or loud, with thin windows or little soundproofing. Bathrooms, hot water, Wi-Fi, kitchen, and laundry are all in the lottery zone. Sleep-sensitive travelers should assume street horns and bar/rooftop music are part of the package, not an exception.
