I’m torn with this review. On one hand, this is a very nice social hostel and it has nice bathrooms. On the other hand, some dorms had bedbugs lol

Overall not bad, the hostel rooms could do with a bit of TLC and where all the beds are connected, if someone moved the whole bed moved. Breakfast was good and very sociable vibes at the hostel. There was not loads of seating around the pool though which made it quite cramped at times. Also staff were insistent there were no bed bugs after my multiple friends had found them in their room which wasn’t the bed. Luckily our room was fine but staff did not deal with it in the most professional way

Found bed bugs in our room. Management was uncooperative, reluctantly offering a 2-night refund after a lengthy discussion. Laundry service claimed 2-day turnaround despite offering express 3-6 hour option. When asked for express, staff threatened to call police multiple times. Unacceptable experience.

I had a lovely time here staff were nice and good value for money but I had a very bad case of bed bugs. When I told the staff they took it very seriously and moved everyone out of the room and cleaned everything. But there were bed bugs in 2 different rooms so I think it spread at this point so if you book a room please check your bed I got bitten very badly.

I love this hostel! I have to change my stay from different hostel to come here because there are bedbugs. And this hostel absolutely well cleans. Definitely not the party hostel but very social atmosphere and I met some nice friends there too The staff are super friendly, the vibe is always great, and everything is lovely and cozy. Breakfast was the best I've ever had. Just a really cool place to be. Can’t recommend it enough and no complaints

I enjoyed my stay at this hostel. The staff was lovely and the free breakfast was one of the best ones ive ever had in a hostel. The rooms were nice and the bathrooms sufficient. However, the pool does not have a cleaning system. It was also a bit weird there was a camera in the general bathroom area. During my stay some others also found bedbugs in their rooms and in the common area. While the staff did make sure to clean everything, i dont think they plan to fumigate the whole place.

The staff is extremely kind and helpful, the location can't be better and everything is sparkling clean. The atmosphere is perfect for young people. We read that there were bed bugs in Laos and checked the bed in my room and friends room, however there was nothing and happy to stay relaxing for 5 nights

Staff are lovely, great location, beds are comfy! Unfortunately both me and my friend had a significant amount of money stolen from our bags during our stay. Can’t say who it was, but the place poses a big security risk. Front door wide open and dorms never lock, no lockers for big bags either just little ones in the bunks. There were also bedbugs in a few of the rooms (luckily not ours) while we were there. To be fair, they handled the bedbug issue quickly and professionally, but still scary.

Vibe Analysis
Golden Dragon House is a central Vang Vieng base with a softer, family-run feel than the main party hostels. The staff can help line up tubing, hot air balloons, paramotoring, bikes, trains, buses, laundry, and local ideas, so logistics are easy to sort from the front desk. The place can be social, especially for solo travelers, but it is usually more pre-drinks-and-chill than full chaos. Poppy the puppy is part of the house personality. Along with the small family feel around reception, she gives the hostel a homier rhythm than a standard dorm factory. Breakfast is a real strength here, with made-to-order options and enough repeat love to make it one of the safer bets in the stay. Dorm beds are generally comfortable and often have curtains, power, lights, shelves, and small lockers. Bathrooms and showers can be very clean on good days, and the common area has a pool table plus a small pool, though the pool quality is inconsistent. The location is walkable to bars, restaurants, the night market, and the 7-Eleven, with both quiet nights and loud music possible depending on timing and room position.

- Pool renovations caused serious noise in June 2026, so check the current status before booking.
- Bathrooms have had recurring issues with cockroaches, mosquitoes, soap, toilet paper, bins, smell, and uneven cleaning.
- Some dorms and private rooms can be cramped, hot, windowless, dark, or short on storage.
- Security and dorm allocation can be uneven: unlocked doors, weak lockers, mixed-dorm placement after female-dorm bookings, and late-night drunk behavior have all been problems.
