I got bit up by beg bugs all over my face and hand while I slept. I told the staff member and she told me bed bugs don't bite your face. This is a lie as they do tend to bite the face. My face is very itch, painful, swollen, and red. You can feel and see where the bugs bite me. She did not offer anything to help. She demanded my full payment. Stay here if you want to be miserable for the rest of your trip.

Bedbugs. Chinches.

Cleaning of showers, toilets and rooms. I was always afraid of getting fungus and biting from bed bugs. Rooms are not clean, smells awful. Plates, forks, spoons, glasses are dirty. Showers are small and very dirty. There's hair and bristles everywhere, the water doesn't go away. Cleaning is a big issue.

I was bitten by bed bugs at night. I even managed to take a picture of one. I had about ten bites. I spoke with my roommate, and he was bitten too. I had to urgently leave and look for accommodation during the night. Thank you for refunding my money.

While the location of Cinnamon Sally, Latvia, was incredibly convenient, my stay was marred by significant issues. The noise levels from the street were unbearable and, to make matters worse, I encountered a severe bedbug problem. Needless to say, I was not pleased with my experience.

I would definitely give a 10 if not for the bedbugs which really bothered me during the stay, and some other guests experienced the same

There were bed bugs everywhere, not only in the beds but also in the Sofas. I stayed twice there. Beginning and end of November. I had bites both times and had to clean very well clothes and stuff after staying there. The first time staying there I was not Sure about the bed bugs, thats why I booked again the same Hostel. However the second time I could confirm it.

BED BUGS! Stayed for 3 nights, and a friend has come back full of bites which have been diagnosed by a doctor as bed bugs - DISGUSTING. Location is good, but facilities are pretty poor - showers are awful with dirty shower curtains and sodden bath mats. Staff were okay, but some of the “leaders” very hostile and clicky with certain guests which isn’t what you expect from a hostel. There are plenty of other hostels in Riga, so AVOID this one.

Need to be honest bc I’d want to know as I read reviews.. November stay included an unexpected bedbug encounter in two diff rooms, but staff swiftly addressed it, inspecting thoroughly and even doing my laundry for free. Also got a refund for my stay given the situation. Positives: great location, delicious breakfast, a clean hostel, friendly staff who clearly care about their guests. It’s an excellent hostel, I just got unlucky with some rogue bugs it seems.

A chill place. Unfortunately, on my third night here, I got bit by bed bugs here, all over my body including my face, neck, hands, arms, legs, feet. I spoke to the owner Julius about receiving a refund and he got angered by the idea of me even asking for one and told me to leave. They did wash my clothing for free including my backpack but that was only after I asked for it- it was a very slow service, I gave it to them in the morning and I didn’t receive it till the next day so one night I went without pajamas. The volunteers I met here were very friendly.

Awful, don't go there. I got bedbugs, and they not even do nothing. I paid by myself all the medicines I needed, they didn't refund my money back of that night and when I found a room un the city I already paid that night I asked for my money And they didn't let me that favour. Hours later of changing me the bed because of the bedbugs i saw that they give someone that sale bed to another guy without doing an exhaust cleaning. Very bad experience.

Vibe Analysis
Cinnamon Sally Backpackers Hostel is a central Riga hostel with a proper social pulse: pub crawls, city activities, Latvian dancing on Wednesdays, music, and common areas that make it easy to link up without forcing full chaos. Staff energy is a big part of the place, with warm check-ins, local tips, and a homey rhythm around the kitchen and breakfast area. The standout is breakfast. Expect a generous free spread with coffee and tea, fruit around during the day, and sometimes fresh waffles, croissants, bread, eggs, cheese, jams, cucumber, tomato, and Nutella. There is also a quiet room or work area, a social side of the hostel, lockers in dorms, and a no-shoes-inside policy that keeps the hostel feeling more house than transit hub. The location is excellent for Riga: close to the old town, the central station, buses, and major sights. The weird part is practical, not poetic: the entrance is inside a McDonald's, the hostel is on the third floor, and late arrival can be confusing if access codes or directions are missed.
Signals to check
- Finding the entrance can be genuinely confusing, especially at night or in bad weather; look for the door inside McDonald's and keep access codes ready.
- No air conditioning and limited airflow can make summer rooms hot or humid, while open windows can bring street, courtyard, fan, or McDonald's noise and smells.
- Bathrooms and showers can be a weak spot: limited numbers, busy periods, drainage issues, and inconsistent cleanliness.
- Dorm privacy is basic in some rooms, with missing bed curtains, small bedding for taller bodies, and occasional top-bunk discomfort.
- Security has mixed signals: dorm doors may not always feel controlled, shoe storage is shared, and past theft or misplaced-item problems make lockers worth using.
- Older pest complaints are serious, especially bedbugs; a 2026 bed-change incident also involved bites.
