Bed bug reports

We paid €54 expecting a private bathroom, but instead had to use dirty, smelly shared bathrooms that we couldn’t imagine showering in. The room itself was extremely small with no space for our luggage, and around the bed edges there were piles of dust and rubbish. The beds were uncomfortable, made me sweat all night, and we only later discovered reviews about bed bugs — which made us panic and check everything before sleeping. Our window faced outdoor toilets that squeaked and slammed all night, making it impossible to rest. Overall, the place felt unhygienic, cramped, and poorly maintained.

I stayed 3 nights during January so it was a bit slow. Wonderful place and convenient to Old Town, restaurants and a Rimi store 3 minutes away. The room doesn’t have a locker to secure your luggage/backpack. They do provide a security locker with deposit. There isn’t any privacy curtain but it did have a lamp. The room was just a bit cold but the rest of the building was cozy. I did get bit by bedbugs. Overall I enjoyed my stay and the staff was nice and helpful. I would return.

Vibe Analysis
Downtown Forest Hostel & Camping is at its best as a scruffy Vilnius hangout with an outdoor garden setup: tables on the slope, strings of lights, a bar, grill rental, and occasional live music or events. It sits close to the Old Town and Uzupis, so it works for a city wander followed by beers, barbecue, and a messy social yard rather than a polished hotel reset. The hostel side has a big common area, a kitchen, basement chill space, free morning coffee or tea at times, and a piano in the lobby. Rooms can be clean and cozy, with clean linens in better cases, but the building and furniture often feel old, basic, or uneven. This is more rustic hacker-camp energy than smooth hospitality choreography. The camping setup is the major caveat. It is small, tight, and urban: a few camper spots, a small tent area, narrow access, limited parking, and a setting that can feel more like a hostel yard than a real campsite. Bring tolerance for noise, shared bathrooms, and logistical weirdness.
Signals to check
- Noise can run late from the bar, barbecue area, events, doors, street traffic, and nearby groups; quiet hours may not hold.
- Bathrooms and showers are a weak point: too few for the crowd, often dirty, sometimes smelly, and not always private.
- Camping and campervan access can be tight, expensive, hard to reach, and not suitable for larger vehicles.
- Service and booking handling can be inconsistent, including room changes, unclear reception coverage, pricing surprises, and mixed staff warmth.
- Beds, mattresses, curtains, room ventilation, and cleanliness vary a lot; this is not a safe bet for deep sleep or comfort-first travel.
