Stayed at Zephyr Lodge and left very disappointed. The tab system felt untrustworthy —others were charged for things they didn’t order. Staff were rude and unprofessional, even blaming my friend for their own order mistake and trying to get him to pay extra. Room had bed bugs. Food was poor and overpriced. Also, they charge for return shuttle (100Q on card if no cash). Only positive was the Semuc tour, but bring your own food. There are far better options closer to Semuc.

WARNING BED BUGS!!! They have been dealing with many complaints of bed bugs and will not fix the problem. Do not come here, you will have bed bugs in all of your luggage and clothes guaranteed. Book somewhere else.

The hostel is pretty cool with a nice view and nice pool. But WE GOT BEDBUGS. And it seems like they have had a problem withe BEDBUGS prior to out visit. So be aware!

The only positive thing about this place is its views. I left covered in bed bug bites and with serious food poisoning. The service, food and facilities are also below average. If you want to be constantly locked out of your room, waiting 40+ mins for mediocre overpriced food, and stuck without wifi then stay here, otherwise stay elsewhere.

DO NOT STAY! For the entirety of our stay we were mistreated by the staff who made us feel every thing but welcome! The bed bugs were a big issue and never wanted to be addressed. The staff were unapproachable and didn’t want to answer any general questions we had. Very disappointed and never returning. Can’t stress enough DO NOT STAY HERE

Amazing place and no bedbugs but staff where not friendly at all. We were in a group of four with three of us bringing our own packaged food for the entire stay in lanquin and Semuc Champey and one who ate food in Semuc Champey (not zephyr). We did not get sick and our friend who ate in lanquin did get sick. I would avoid eating in the whole of lanquin and Semuc Champey completely (filtered water was fine).

Wonderful views, a lovely pool and hot tub, and a raucous bar. However, there were several downsides. Bedbugs were ignored by the generally disinterested staff, 8 of 10 people in my group had terrible food poisoning from the food here, and I couldn't help but feel the place was set up to rinse backpackers of every quetzal. Perhaps we visited during an unfortunate 3 day period but overall we left Lanquin gutted that Zephyr could have been so much more. Read their responses to reviews on Trip advisor for a laugh (and an example of how to not be professional). I stayed in El Retiro 8 years ago and they knew how to treat visitors with warmth and kindness. X

Analyse de l'ambiance
La piscine et le bain chaud avec vue vallée-et-jungle sont l'événement principal à Zephyr Lodge. C'est le genre de setup où le paysage fait une grosse partie du boulot : espaces communs ouverts, bar au bord de l'eau, table de billard et grandes vues sur Lanquin rendent facile de rester traîner toute la journée. Le tour de Semuc Champey est une autre force claire, avec guides fun et bon accès aux grottes, bassins et excursions locales. Tipsy tubing peut aussi être un bon moment, même si l'organisation des tours peut être irrégulière, donc ça vaut le coup de vérifier les détails avant de construire une journée autour. La scène sociale penche jeune, alcoolisée et parfois full party-hostel bruyante. La musique peut durer tard et devenir assez intense pour rendre parler, manger ou dormir difficile, donc ça marche mieux pour les voyageurs qui veulent verres à la piscine et chaos nocturne que pour ceux qui cherchent une récupération jungle au calme. Le compromis, c'est que Zephyr peut sembler cher et contrôlé pour un endroit backpacker. Il n'y a pas de cuisine partagée, la nourriture extérieure peut ne pas être autorisée, et le restaurant devient l'option par défaut malgré une qualité de nourriture inégale et des prix plus hauts. Les chambres vont de correctes à fatiguées, avec problèmes répétés de chaleur, lits durs, Wi-Fi faible, rideaux d'intimité limités, insectes ou rongeurs, et chambres privées sans refroidissement correct.

- Nourriture, boissons, lessive, transport, serviettes et paiements par carte peuvent vite s'accumuler.
- Pas de cuisine partagée, et la nourriture extérieure peut être restreinte.
- L'hygiène de la nourriture ou de l'eau peut être un risque.
- Le staff et la gestion peuvent être hit-or-miss, avec de sérieuses préoccupations de sécurité et d'attitude.
- Certaines chambres peuvent être chaudes, basiques, datées ou manquer d'intimité.
