Stayed at Zephyr Lodge and left very disappointed. The tab system felt untrustworthy —others were charged for things they didn’t order. Staff were rude and unprofessional, even blaming my friend for their own order mistake and trying to get him to pay extra. Room had bed bugs. Food was poor and overpriced. Also, they charge for return shuttle (100Q on card if no cash). Only positive was the Semuc tour, but bring your own food. There are far better options closer to Semuc.

WARNING BED BUGS!!! They have been dealing with many complaints of bed bugs and will not fix the problem. Do not come here, you will have bed bugs in all of your luggage and clothes guaranteed. Book somewhere else.

The hostel is pretty cool with a nice view and nice pool. But WE GOT BEDBUGS. And it seems like they have had a problem withe BEDBUGS prior to out visit. So be aware!

The only positive thing about this place is its views. I left covered in bed bug bites and with serious food poisoning. The service, food and facilities are also below average. If you want to be constantly locked out of your room, waiting 40+ mins for mediocre overpriced food, and stuck without wifi then stay here, otherwise stay elsewhere.

DO NOT STAY! For the entirety of our stay we were mistreated by the staff who made us feel every thing but welcome! The bed bugs were a big issue and never wanted to be addressed. The staff were unapproachable and didn’t want to answer any general questions we had. Very disappointed and never returning. Can’t stress enough DO NOT STAY HERE

Amazing place and no bedbugs but staff where not friendly at all. We were in a group of four with three of us bringing our own packaged food for the entire stay in lanquin and Semuc Champey and one who ate food in Semuc Champey (not zephyr). We did not get sick and our friend who ate in lanquin did get sick. I would avoid eating in the whole of lanquin and Semuc Champey completely (filtered water was fine).

Wonderful views, a lovely pool and hot tub, and a raucous bar. However, there were several downsides. Bedbugs were ignored by the generally disinterested staff, 8 of 10 people in my group had terrible food poisoning from the food here, and I couldn't help but feel the place was set up to rinse backpackers of every quetzal. Perhaps we visited during an unfortunate 3 day period but overall we left Lanquin gutted that Zephyr could have been so much more. Read their responses to reviews on Trip advisor for a laugh (and an example of how to not be professional). I stayed in El Retiro 8 years ago and they knew how to treat visitors with warmth and kindness. X

Analisi dell'atmosfera
La piscina e la hot tub con vista valle e giungla sono l'evento principale a Zephyr Lodge. E il tipo di setup in cui lo scenario fa gran parte del lavoro: aree comuni aperte, un bar vicino all'acqua, biliardo e grandi viste su Lanquin rendono facile restare in giro tutto il giorno. Il tour di Semuc Champey e un'altra forza chiara, con guide divertenti e buon accesso a grotte, piscine ed escursioni locali. Anche tipsy tubing puo essere un bel momento, anche se l'organizzazione dei tour puo essere incostante, quindi vale la pena controllare i dettagli prima di costruirci intorno una giornata. La scena sociale tende a giovane, alcolica e a volte pieno party-hostel rumoroso. La musica puo andare avanti fino a tardi e diventare abbastanza intensa da rendere difficile parlare, mangiare o dormire, quindi funziona meglio per viaggiatori che vogliono drink in piscina e caos notturno che per chi cerca recupero tranquillo nella giungla. Il compromesso e che Zephyr puo sembrare costoso e controllato per un posto backpacker. Non c'e cucina condivisa, il cibo esterno potrebbe non essere permesso e il ristorante diventa l'opzione di default nonostante qualita del cibo irregolare e prezzi piu alti. Le camere vanno da decenti a stanche, con problemi ripetuti di caldo, letti duri, Wi-Fi debole, tende privacy limitate, insetti o roditori e private room senza raffrescamento adeguato.
Segnali da controllare
- Non e un buon fit per notti tranquille; la musica alta puo andare avanti fino a tardi.
- Cibo, drink, lavanderia, trasporti, asciugamani e pagamenti con carta possono accumulare costi in fretta.
- Niente cucina condivisa, e il cibo esterno puo essere limitato.
- Igiene di cibo o acqua puo essere un rischio.
- Staff e management possono essere hit-or-miss, con alcune serie preoccupazioni su sicurezza e atteggiamento.
- Alcune camere possono essere calde, basiche, datate o con poca privacy.
