Stayed at Zephyr Lodge and left very disappointed. The tab system felt untrustworthy —others were charged for things they didn’t order. Staff were rude and unprofessional, even blaming my friend for their own order mistake and trying to get him to pay extra. Room had bed bugs. Food was poor and overpriced. Also, they charge for return shuttle (100Q on card if no cash). Only positive was the Semuc tour, but bring your own food. There are far better options closer to Semuc.

WARNING BED BUGS!!! They have been dealing with many complaints of bed bugs and will not fix the problem. Do not come here, you will have bed bugs in all of your luggage and clothes guaranteed. Book somewhere else.

The hostel is pretty cool with a nice view and nice pool. But WE GOT BEDBUGS. And it seems like they have had a problem withe BEDBUGS prior to out visit. So be aware!

The only positive thing about this place is its views. I left covered in bed bug bites and with serious food poisoning. The service, food and facilities are also below average. If you want to be constantly locked out of your room, waiting 40+ mins for mediocre overpriced food, and stuck without wifi then stay here, otherwise stay elsewhere.

DO NOT STAY! For the entirety of our stay we were mistreated by the staff who made us feel every thing but welcome! The bed bugs were a big issue and never wanted to be addressed. The staff were unapproachable and didn’t want to answer any general questions we had. Very disappointed and never returning. Can’t stress enough DO NOT STAY HERE

Amazing place and no bedbugs but staff where not friendly at all. We were in a group of four with three of us bringing our own packaged food for the entire stay in lanquin and Semuc Champey and one who ate food in Semuc Champey (not zephyr). We did not get sick and our friend who ate in lanquin did get sick. I would avoid eating in the whole of lanquin and Semuc Champey completely (filtered water was fine).

Wonderful views, a lovely pool and hot tub, and a raucous bar. However, there were several downsides. Bedbugs were ignored by the generally disinterested staff, 8 of 10 people in my group had terrible food poisoning from the food here, and I couldn't help but feel the place was set up to rinse backpackers of every quetzal. Perhaps we visited during an unfortunate 3 day period but overall we left Lanquin gutted that Zephyr could have been so much more. Read their responses to reviews on Trip advisor for a laugh (and an example of how to not be professional). I stayed in El Retiro 8 years ago and they knew how to treat visitors with warmth and kindness. X

La piscina y el hot tub con vista al valle y la jungla son el evento principal en Zephyr Lodge. Es el tipo de setup donde el paisaje hace gran parte del trabajo: áreas comunes abiertas, un bar junto al agua, mesa de pool y grandes vistas de Lanquin hacen fácil quedarse dando vueltas todo el día. El tour a Semuc Champey es otra fortaleza clara, con guías divertidos y buen acceso a las cuevas, pozas y excursiones locales. Tipsy tubing también puede ser un buen rato, aunque la organización de tours puede ser irregular, así que vale la pena revisar detalles antes de armar un día entero alrededor de eso. La escena social tira a joven, alcohólica y a veces full party-hostel ruidosa. La música puede seguir tarde y ponerse lo bastante intensa como para dificultar hablar, comer o dormir, así que funciona mejor para viajeros que quieren tragos en la piscina y caos nocturno que para cualquiera buscando recuperación tranquila en la jungla. El costo es que Zephyr puede sentirse caro y controlado para un lugar mochilero. No hay cocina compartida, puede que no permitan comida de afuera, y el restaurante se vuelve la opción por defecto pese a calidad de comida irregular y precios más altos. Las habitaciones van de decentes a cansadas, con problemas repetidos de calor, camas duras, Wi-Fi débil, cortinas de privacidad limitadas, insectos o roedores, y privadas sin buena refrigeración.

- No va bien para noches tranquilas; la música fuerte puede seguir hasta tarde.
- Comida, tragos, lavandería, transporte, toallas y pagos con tarjeta pueden sumar rápido.
- No hay cocina compartida, y la comida de afuera puede estar restringida.

- Staff y administración pueden ser hit-or-miss, con algunas preocupaciones serias de seguridad y actitud.
