First the good parts: common areas were nice (sofas, billiardtable etc.), the kitchen was big, many facilities, also this older woman employee was super nice to us Then the downfall: when we arrived there, the staff didn’t tell us anything about the hostel (where is the kitchen or the bathrooms etc) or the area around, our hostel room was dirty, the floor and the fan were in dust, our lockers were also dirty and still had other people’s stuff, we also found bedbug or cockroach marks from my friend’s locker, one day they shut all the toilets at the same time for like an hour to clean them, usually the kitchen was also dirty: people didn’t clean their pots or pans (they were left dirty in the evening and were found at the same spot dirty in the morning) staff just ignored that usually, also they didn’t tell us anything about the yha app, would recommend just for a one night if even that

My room was dirty when I arrived. Floor was dusty and my locker had bedbug or cockroach marks. Someone had also left their things to my locker. Common areas were clean and large. Kitchen was sometimes dirty because other people didn't wash their dishes. One day staff was cleaning bathrooms for one hour so I couldn't go to any bathroom. It was nice to be near to the beach and it was easy to take a bus to the center. It's okay if you stay only for one night.

YHA Coolangatta funziona al meglio come crash pad vicino all'aeroporto con un po' di vita da ostello attaccata. Il Gold Coast Airport è a circa 10 minuti a piedi, la spiaggia è vicina e i bus possono portarti verso la città, anche se il centro di Coolangatta non è proprio dietro l'angolo. L'ostello ha una grande cucina comune, ampie aree condivise, una piccola piscina, armadietti e un setup social rilassato con BBQ del venerdì e movie night. Lo staff può essere caldo e disponibile, con Heather e Sarah che spiccano per nome. Il compromesso è il comfort. Le camere sono basic, il suono viaggia forte da highway, aeroporto, porte e corridoi, e non c'è aria condizionata. Materassi, caldo, luce, poca privacy del letto, accesso scomodo alle prese e pulizia a tratti possono rendere il sonno ruvido. Questo posto ha più senso per una tappa breve prima o dopo un volo, non come base beach patinata.

- Il rumore di aeroporto e highway può essere forte, soprattutto per chi ha il sonno leggero.
- Non c'è aria condizionata, e le camere possono diventare molto calde.
- Letti e materassi possono sembrare molto basic o consumati.
- La pulizia è incostante in camere, bagni, armadietti e cucina.
- La posizione è comoda per voli e spiaggia, ma non ideale per il centro di Coolangatta o la spesa senza bus o auto.
- L'atmosfera nei dorm può sembrare irregolare, soprattutto attorno agli occupanti long-term.
