Bedbugs. Only hostel in my travels that gave us bedbug bites, and a lot of them. (Due to bite placement I think it was the blankets). The hostel is chill as there's no real communal area except for outside, but the room was super noisy because the patio door let a lot of noise in from a live music bar close by. There also seems to be nobody on site staff wise, so a few guys tripping in the dorm opposite were able to scream and run in the hallways for a few hours. Reception is pretty much non-existent and wasn't helpful in helping us book a taxi/onwards travel. Seemed pretty annoyed we were interrupting his gaming the few times we tried so we just asked elsewhere. I left early morning but nobody mans reception at night/early morning so be aware of that for deposits. Luckily my friend was leaving a couple hours later so I left her with my key to check out.

DKaYa Hostel is een kleine, schone basis in Khao Lak bij Bang Niang Market, 7-Eleven, restaurants, het Tsunami Museum en een beloopbaar strand. Het werkt het best voor low-drama dagen: slapen, market food, scooterritten, eilandtours, Muay Thai en dan terug naar een rustige kamer. De praktische bits zijn beter dan de party bits. Er is gratis water, thee, koffie en kleine snacks, plus een koelkast, magnetron, keukengerei, handdoeken, toiletartikelen en vaak een balkon of droogrek. Scooterverhuur en tourbooking kunnen via het hostel beschikbaar zijn, en personeel kan via WhatsApp heel behulpzaam zijn. De sfeer is kalm en sociaal hit-or-miss. Met maar een paar dorms en een kleine outdoor/common area kan het vriendelijk worden als de juiste mix er is, maar het is niet gebouwd rond events of grote backpackerchaos.

- Dorms kunnen krap voelen, en veel bedden hebben weinig of geen privacygordijn.
- Bedden zijn vaak stevig, soms extreem hard.
- Receptie is niet altijd bemand, dus check-in en vragen kunnen WhatsApp nodig hebben.
- Geluid van nabije muziek, natte-cel badkamers, af en toe water- of wifi-problemen en geïsoleerde schoonmaakissues zijn mogelijk.
