Bedbugs. Only hostel in my travels that gave us bedbug bites, and a lot of them. (Due to bite placement I think it was the blankets). The hostel is chill as there's no real communal area except for outside, but the room was super noisy because the patio door let a lot of noise in from a live music bar close by. There also seems to be nobody on site staff wise, so a few guys tripping in the dorm opposite were able to scream and run in the hallways for a few hours. Reception is pretty much non-existent and wasn't helpful in helping us book a taxi/onwards travel. Seemed pretty annoyed we were interrupting his gaming the few times we tried so we just asked elsewhere. I left early morning but nobody mans reception at night/early morning so be aware of that for deposits. Luckily my friend was leaving a couple hours later so I left her with my key to check out.

Vibe Analysis

DKaYa Hostel is a small, clean Khao Lak base near Bang Niang Market, 7-Eleven, restaurants, the Tsunami Museum, and a walkable beach. It works best for low-drama days: sleep, market food, scooter runs, island tours, Muay Thai, then back to a quiet room. The practical bits are better than the party bits. There is free water, tea, coffee, and small snacks, plus a fridge, microwave, utensils, towels, toiletries, and often a balcony or drying rack. Scooter rental and tour booking may be available through the hostel, and staff can be very helpful by WhatsApp. The atmosphere is calm and hit-or-miss socially. With only a couple of dorms and a small outdoor/common area, it can become friendly when the right mix is around, but it is not built around events or big backpacker chaos.
