About my experience I can say in the beginning all was good not excellent. I lived there almost 4 months and issues like bedbugs, housekeeping team and poor kitchen schedule was terrible. The people who lived there was amazing, like is a very good experience if you arrive and you want to know people that’s the perfect place and is a very good location. I experiment a very bad experience with one person of the staff, very unprofessional with me and some of the people who lived there. I suggest lived there just 2 months and try to get another place like apartment or house to lived and get a perfect experience in townsville. Any answer from the hostel is the same guys who is unprofessional with more people, just follow my suggestion.

Good place to stay, safe, clean, good staff, affordable accommodation on a budget, no frills backpackers accommodation, good kitchen facilities, clean bed Bug free beds, great location 3 minutes walk to Wollies and local bottle shop

Nothing to rave about but this place is fine to stay a night or 2. Not close to ferry or greyhound buses but they run a shuttle. Not many socialising areas which is a downfall - you either have to sit outside (Not ideal in a tropical area with lots of rain) or in the hot, sweaty kitchen, Or in your room. Kitchen is clean with plenty of utensils. Our private room was reasonably priced although I think may have a problem with bed bugs - I never get bitten but after 2 nights here have woken up covered in little bites that are itching like mad!

Civic Guest House Backpackers Hostel works best as a Townsville launchpad: Woolworths is close, buses are handy, Castle Hill is within reach, and Magnetic Island plans are easy enough with the ferry connection nearby. The hostel has a pool, a kitchen, outdoor hangout space, free tea and coffee, and fridges in rooms, which is genuinely useful when the shared fridge situation gets chaotic. The mood is mixed. At its best, it feels clean, relaxed, friendly, and a bit family-like, with warm staff and easy common areas. Private rooms and cleaner dorms can be comfortable, with aircon, ensuite setups, secure codes, and decent beds. Other dorms can feel cramped or taken over by long-term residents, with limited shelf space, no bed curtains, missing bedside sockets, weak lockers, and noise carrying through thin walls.
