Corridors too dark, bed bugs. Racist East Asian staff member looked at me and interacted with me as a PhD educated British brown skinned gay man as if I was inferior to her, management need to care more about staff being racist and rude.

Horrendous and scary place to be in , they have bedbugs, roaches and nasty stuff I was hardly able to take a shower because room smelled like it's a garbage can full of expired tuna inside. I won't ever come there and strongly don't recommend even if it's free !!!

I feel very conflicted about this hostel. The shared dorms were segregated in a way that offered privacy and personal space. The bathroom facilities are located within the dorms and cleaned regularly. My friend and I stayed at Bastardo for four nights; However, on the last night, my friend decided to flip over her pillow for the first time to find disturbing blood stains on the pillow. The stain looks too large to be related to bed bugs, but regardless, we were both shocked to find this. It clearly shows that the pillow case was not changed before our arrival, which suggests there is a serious concern with the level of hygiene at this hostel. We really enjoyed our stay at Bastardo until finding these disturbing blood stains. If you do decide to stay here, please check your bedding.

Vibe Analysis
Bastardo Hostel puts you in central Madrid, close to Malasaña, Fuencarral, metro links, food, bars, and a short walk from Puerta del Sol. The location is the cleanest win here: easy city access, lively streets, and plenty nearby without needing a complicated transport plan. The ground floor has a bar/restaurant, terrace energy, music, and food and drink on site. The hostel also runs activities, including pub-crawl-style nights, drinking games, and cultural programming, so it can suit a younger, social, party-leaning trip better than a quiet recharge mission. Rooms are the tradeoff. Beds can be comfortable, and some rooms have air conditioning, but the layout often feels tight, dark, and low on storage. The place has a bold black design and hotel-dorm concept, though the actual dorm setup can feel more functional for sleeping than for settling in.
