Welcoming smiles, inexpensive drinks, a solid kitchen, and decent wifi can only go so far. The bunks are firm, the pillows worn out, storage underneath is poor, and you pay extra for everything — even to hold a package. Their hiker box and loaner clothes are in disarray. My first stay was great. The second, however, was a nightmare: bedbugs, more than 40 bites, and an allergic reaction that made the trail feel like a constant itch. To their credit, the owners handled it professionally and made amends. Still, if you stay here, keep your pack far from the bunks and check every corner before settling in.

Book at this Hostel! I urge the community to AVOID ; 3 PEAKS HOTEL! It is a disaster! 3 PEAKS HOTEL Has NO HOT WATER! 3 PEAKS HOTEL has cockroaches and bed bugs. Steer clear! Book anywhere except the 3 Peaks Hotel! Your vacation will be destroyed by their lack of compassion and care! The female manager at the front desk is abusing the guests and not being professional or finding solutions to their property’s issues! They will blame you and not care for you and your family if you stay at their Roach Motel! Warn/Tell everyone spread the word please do not give 3 Peaks any of your Money!

Dirty room & evidence of bed bugs. The linoleum peels up in the bathroom causing a tripping hazard. The carpet is not just stained but soiled and filthy. The AC is so loud I couldn't sleep with it on. The TV remote didn't work. There was a broken closet door left outside my room and no screens on the windows. Extremely overpriced based on the poor quality of the room.

Always an excellent place to stay in South Lake Tahoe (just a few blocks from both Heavenly and the lake)! Super friendly staff, kitchen is large and well-equipped, and the dorm beds each have their own reading light (!). Most importantly, it's clean and well-kept (no worries about bedbugs)!

This is the place to stay if you are looking for cheap and reliable accomodation for some activity at South Tahoe. I prefer to sleep over here for as low as $30/night to snowboard the next day. The rooms are not fancy or high quality but they are clean and adequate for sleeping. Showers included. No bed bugs! Its also a good way to meet people. The staff is really friendly.

Mellow Mountain Hostel is best understood as a cheap, central base in South Lake Tahoe. It sits close to the main strip, Heavenly Village, casinos, restaurants, bars, breweries, the lake, and beach access, so walking is the main win here. Beach discount vouchers may be available, which makes the location more useful if the plan is lake time over room time. Some rooms have practical basics like a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, TV, spa tub, or free parking, and staff can be friendly or helpful in individual moments. The tradeoff is blunt: the property can feel old, rough, and badly maintained. Rooms may have dirty floors, stained carpets or sheets, hair in bathrooms, smoke or musty smells, broken TVs or remotes, weak heating or AC, leaking showers, worn mattresses, holes in walls or floors, and bathroom mold. Shared spaces and kitchens may also be greasy, undersupplied, or uncomfortable. This is not the smooth Tahoe fantasy version. It is a location-first, budget-first option with real chaos risk: thin walls, loud nights, limited front-desk access, crowded parking, surprise fees, and room quality that can swing hard.
