Phoenix Hostel Paddington

INFESTED WITH BED BUGS!!! Rooms not cleaned, there was a bag of random garbage on the floor and bins had not been emptied. Several people reported bed bugs and I have a series of bite photos. There was no fan or air conditioning during severely hot weather. Rat droppings spotted in luggage storage container. No running water when I went to shower in the morning after sweating all night due to no ventilation in rooms.

Fuera del hostal estaba lleno de yonquis, a varios los hemos visto inconscientes y trapicheando. Y dentro de la recepción, que era el bar, estaban algunos de estos. Además el colchón estaba muy sucio y era súper delgado, por lo que se sentían las tablas del somier; las sábanas estaban llenas de pelos; el suelo estaba súper sucio, donde hemos visto una uña gigante; en la pared encima de la cabecera había un moco pegado; tanto la ventana como el radiador estaban llenos de polvo; y había un olor a lejía espantoso en la habitación. El baño estaba igualmente sucio, todas las ventanas llenas de polvo, no había jabón de manos y la baldosa donde estaba el retrete se levantaba. Hemos visto que no pasaban la escoba, sino que fregaban arrastrando la suciedad de un lado al otro; incluso hemos visto cómo le daban con la fregona sucia a la balda y a la mesilla de nuestra habitación. Una vez que les hemos dicho que nos gustaría cancelar la reserva y que no nos sentíamos cómodos, ya nos han empezado a mirar fatal y eso ha sido lo que ha hecho que nos buscáramos otro alojamiento mediante Booking en otro hotel. Ayer nada más llegar, al ver el estado, les dijimos esta opción y nos dijeron que esta mañana lo hablaríamos con el manager. Hemos hecho noche, pero la experiencia ha sido mala: la cama era muy incómoda, se escuchaba todo de las habitaciones de al lado, del pasillo y de la escuela de al lado, y la cortina no tapaba nada, por lo que entraba un montón de luz desde las 4 de la mañana, que amanece en Londres en junio. Esta mañana no estaba el manager y nos han dicho que vendría a las 3. Hemos tenido que volver al hostal a esa hora para hablar con él y nos ha dicho que ponía que no era reembolsable y que, si estaba sucia, nos la limpiaban. No era solo la limpieza, sino la inseguridad de la que hablábamos y el mal descanso en esa cama. Otros clientes también reportan que había una plaga de chinches, lo que tampoco nos dejaba descansar tranquilos.

It may be personal taste but pumpy music is not my vibe. THat was the only music I heard and until early in the morning. There was only one working shower for a few rooms - so maybe 30 people. Staff were friendly but you needed to fit in with the vibe. It may be coincidence but I had about 20 marks on my feet and lower legs. I checked on Google and the patterns of the marks seems to indicate fleas/bed bugs. If it was a food allergy, I have not changed my diet since and the marks are healing since I left.

Would give it a 10/10 if the place wasn't a bedbug cest pitt.. was eaten alive in one room asked to change and was eaten alive on the other room barely got any sleep.

One of the Worst Hostels Ever,if you can even call it that.Had to wait 20 minutes before some one eventually arrived.There were no Toilet rolls in most of the Toilets.Bathrooms and Toilets Smells.The Carpet on the Stairs was Filthy.My Bunk Bed was unmade when i arrived and the Duva Cover was Heavily Stained.There was People's Stuff all over the Floor.Cramped in a Tiny 3meters four Bunk bed Room.I Work up Covered with Bed Bugs all Over me.Bed Bugs Crawling all Over the Walls Beds and Ceiling.

Bedbugs!!!

This is a hostel for people who have no choice other than sleeping out on the streets. That is no excuse for the state of the place. Beds clearly never get changed. Stained sheets, pubic hair and blood ( potentially from bed bugs ) were all found on my sheet. I left after 5 minutes. I wish I had read the Google reviews first and saved myself the hassle. IF YOU ARE NOT ABSOLUTELY DESPERATE - AVOID.

This hostel was disgusting. Any review that says otherwise is lying to you. Nothing was clean. Staff were hostile and getting in fights with each other before we even checked in. The bathrooms were disgusting. The beds looked to have remnants of bed bugs in them. If you are a woman specifically, I would advise against staying here. There were many sketchy men staying here and I felt unsafe. I checked out 30 minutes after checking in because I felt so uncomfortable. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Don't believe the bad reviews! I was terrified before I came-- but there were no bed bugs (I asked everyone) AND all of the staff were amazingly, amazingly helpful and supportive. They (and other guests) helped with my questions about London, Britain, and future travels. You will meet really great people here. Thank you especially to Kamel for all of his help and for being so welcoming!! The people here made my trip 100% better-- and I will be returning.

There were bedbugs in both female dorms! Not only when it was discovered in the room I stayed we contacted the staff and they said they would spray but they never did, but also they moved people from one dorm to another, but they also did nothing about it. As a result most people left these dorms, including myself, right after we understood that they don't care about hygiene issues. Don't book it!!

Would have been better if there's no bed bugs. Everything ok except I have a bad night killing bed bugs. I end up spending more because I have to buy medicine for itchiness and bed bugs catcher.

Dios! Es el prior hotel, por llamarlo de alguna manera que he estado. Llegas allí y da miedo! Parece un albergue de indigentes! La gente descalza en el bar/recepcion… la habitación individual, daba asco! La pared llena de mocos con sangre….suciedad por todo el colchón…y ahora vine lo más fuerte…cucarachas y chinches. A día de hoy….tengo picadas a causa de el colchón infectado de chinches. El hotel, huele a basura…suciedad y marihuana. El baño, dios! Daba mucho asco y grima! Es que es todo malo… daba asco tocar cualquier cosa. No quise consumir nada del bar porque daba asco….la gente descalza por el bar…parecía un centro de toxicomanos! Es asqueroso! Debería de estar cerrado! No cojas este hotel! Yo pasé miedo, pensaba que nos robarían en cualquier momento! Adjunto fotos de mi estado actual ….

honestly guys.. the location is solid. but there are bed bugs and when I approached the dude at the reception about them.. he said there's nothing he can do, that all the beds have them and I have a choice "to be a man" and sleep in that bed and then began giving a hypothetical allegory comparing the situation to if I had a daughter on the other side of the world I needed to see. it was absolutely ridiculous but it's cheapest in London and everyone else was chill. free tea

I’ve come out of this place with bites from bed Bugs all over me, my bed had 2 steps missing to get to my top bunk bed, overall didn’t feel like a hostel rather felt like a shelter

Very dirty place, dirty floor, dirty tables around the bar... Bed bugs!!!

C'était très sale, tout étais sale, pas hygiénique, les lits, les draps, les coussins, les toilettes, la salle de bains, il y avait des bedbugs partout sur le lit sur les murs, le personnel pas tres aimable surtout un vieux blond très hautain, j'avais une réservation de 2 semaines j'ai du quitter au bout de une semaine tellement c'était grave un établissement comme sa devrait fermer pour mauvaise hygiène.

Arrived to find bed bugs — did not stay. Staff stored my luggage in a secure cellar. When I returned to collect it, the luggage had vanished. Two pairs of trainers (£320) remain locked in a room locker, but staff won’t confirm if they’re still there or if the locker has been accessed. Staff member "Mattiouse" was involved. No resolution, no accountability, no refund. Over £2,300 worth of belongings lost or unaccounted for.

Full of bed bugs. Absolutely terrible experience. I’ll never go there again.

NO TE QUEDES AQUI, es un lugar espantoso, llegas a un bar q no se ve tan mal pero la gente es extraña y apesta a marihuana. Subes por unas escaleras asquerosamente sucias, el baño es horrible y es un solo baño para mas de 30 personas. Los cuartos son espantosos, pequeños, sin espacio, literas pequeñas, no tienes donde poner tus cosas ni por donde caminar por q la gente tiene todo en el piso, las paredes sucias, las ventanas horribles. Parece un anexo o carcel. Cuenta con 6 lockers que ya estaban llenos de ropa, habia bolsas de ropa y basura de otras huespedes en el piso, cuando llegamos estaban ocupadas todas las camas y solo vaciaron una y cambiaron la sabana. Tuve q dormir con mis maletas en mi cama por q no habia donde ponerlas y por q a parte daba miedo que te robaran. Las huespedes vivian ahí y era groseras, hostiles y estaban super enfermas. Pagué por 3 noches y mejor me salí el primer día a primera hora y como q es algo comun para ellos, por q ni me preguntaron por q abandonaba la habitación, fue una horrible experiencia y me llené de piquetes de chinches. Por tu salud y seguridad no te hospedes en ese lugar

J'ai attrapé des punaises de lits. En tant que femme on ne se sent pas du tout en sécurité. Les parties communes sont sales, notamment la salle de bain du dernier étage, sans aération, on ne sait pas si l'eau qui nous tombe dessus est celle de la douche ou de la condensation au plafond qui goutte (le plafond est bien sûr moisi). Il n'y a pas de rideau pour son lit ou de prises à disposition pour chaque client. Globalement tout semble insalubre et l'endroit est assez mal fréquenté. Le pire restant toujours les punaises de lit !! C'est un enfer de rentrer avec ça chez soi.

The place was dirty, smelly and unwelcoming. We were initially considering staying because a last minute hotel in London would be expensive, but we changed our mind very quickly after seeing the amount of reviews and pictures regarding BED BUGS on google.

I checked in, went up to the room and within seconds saw a live bed bug on the bed. I went straight back to reception, explained to them that i want to check out because of it Staff at The Phoenix told me they couldn’t refund me and that I had to “sort it with Booking.com” even though I had literally just checked in and not stayed the night. I m pretty sure they already knew about this problem cause they did nt look suprised I left the property immediately and booked somewhere else at my own cost. I still haven’t had a proper response or refund from Booking.com. I never actually slept there, so I can’t comment on anything else – but finding a bed bug on arrival and being refused a refund is enough for me. I won’t be booking this place again nor will i use booking.com in the future

The night staff reception told me no refund can be given because people snore all the time. And I found bed bugs. The reason I couldn't sleep is because of snoring noise and bed bugs

First room they offered had 2 bed bugs on the pillow. The staff did seem to take it seriously and moved me to another room. The other clientele needed a wash and looked like they’d been staring there a very long time and had loads of stuff

Rooms infested with bed bugs and suchlike vermin. I experienced dozens of bites - had little sleep, was given an antihistamine tablet the following morning and suggested to move bunks within the same dorm which was pointless as others had a, similar experience. Hostel looks run down and in need of a thorough "deep clean" & upgrade re quality & hygiene of toilet & shower facilities. Bunks : neither privacy curtauns, nor reading lights e.g. c/w charging points. Overall: worse than in mid 2024.

Bedbugs on all beds in room two. I had to leave and find a new place as soon as possible.

I have been travelling Europe for the past six months, booking the cheapest hostels at almost every single country i went to and somehow phoenix hostel has taken the title of the worst hostel I have ever been to. I have bed bug bites all over my body, there was blood on the wall next to my bed and blood in the bathroom, human faeces on the bathroom floor and a whole ecosystem of mould in the bathrooms. Terrible vibes, felt so unsafe, came close to leaving without a refund. some nice staff though.

The place is infested with bed bugs. The property has refused to refund me or offer any apology. I suffered over 50 bites after just 2 nights there, as well as £1000 in new location costs and weeks of dealing with the problem they refused to solved. Finally, while there, I’m pretty sure drug dealing was happening in my dormitory.

Unfortunately, after my stay, I found I was covered in itching insect bites, which must have come from bed bugs in my bed. Nevertheless, I expect I will stay again in the future, so I hope this will not happen again.

The room was extremely dirty, the bed had signs of bed bugs, and the bathrooms were far away. There was no security for my belongings and no available power outlets. The photos and description on Booking.com did not match the real conditions. I could not stay or sleep even one night.

Nunca crei ir a un hostel en un estado tan deplorable. Las habitaciones un asco, llenas de chinches, suciedad, los baños siempre sucios y mojados. Las escaleras y demas partes con un olor a suciedad terrible. Obvio cuando te quejas solo ofrecen cambiarte de cama, pero mientras tanto las chinches ya se hicieron una fiesta. No vayan ni aunque se los regalen, es mas digno dormir en la estacion del tren que dormir en este "hostel" que parece sacado de una pelicula de terror.

My beds was full of bed bugs 🐛. I ask for a refund but they said the booking was a nonrefundable booking, but I explained that if the beds are full of bed 🐛bugs it was not my fault that I can't sleep on the bed full of bed bugs . Thay did not do anything. I lost my £ 107. Do not stay in this hostel. Its full of bed bugs 🐛. There are much better hostel for this price.

Dirty , rude smelly. BED BUGS by the trillions . Stay away . Permanent people living there , wait for the toilet wait for the shower . Dangerous. Thefts . A bar down stairs with drunk people . If any parents booking for there kids coming over , DONT DONT

There were bedbugs in the facility and it smelled very bad. Also, the bathrooms were collapsed from the inside of the building, everywhere was covered in debris, the bathrooms and toilets were ruined and very poorly maintained.

The staff are all long term guests, one was quite rude and aggressive during my first week. The guests are majority waifs and strays and aggressive interactions and guests having mental health episodes was common, and ignored by staff. The immediate surrounding area was frequented by dodgy characters who were usually drunk, and going out at night felt unsafe. Two of my rooms were infested with bed bugs and I was covered in bites. the staff were indifferent to this.

When I arrived it there were like 15 old men in the lobby and it was very dirty and grimy. I didn’t feel very safe but my bed didn’t have any bed bugs despite other reviews. If you’re really trying to save money then it is cheap but I would so much have rather paid a bit extra and gone somewhere nicer. Fire alarm also went off at 3am.

Demasiado sucio. No vale la pena hospedarse ahí. Me fui con un montón de heridas de picaduras de pulgas, chinches y vaya a saber que otra cosa de ahí. No me para de picar el cuerpo. El olor es insoportable. La gente que merodea la zona del hostel y los que se hospedan allí también. Estuve sospechando que tal vez venden droga ahí. No lo recomiendo para nada a menos que quieras tener una experiencia inolvidable en el mal sentido.

My stay was mostly okay. It is really not the cleanest so be prepared for that. Furthermore they had bed bugs which I sadly only realised once I had already been bitten multiple times. I hope they are able to get rid of them.

Possibly when the hostel opened thirteen years ago the description could have been accurate. However I doubt that any maintenance or upgrading has taken place since ! A few words spring to mind to describe my impression of the establishment - squalid, depressing, poor quality. Phoenix hostel failed to meet the most basic standards of cleanliness and hygiene. This said the main problem was bites from 'Bed bugs', itching lasted seven - ten days. The blotches have also disappeared.

There are BEDBUGS. I would not recommend to come here. I stayed here with a friend and we felt very unsafe when in the bar and hostel. The bathrooms are filthy and our room had a very bad odor. Most staff was nice but that does not make up for the cleanliness problems. The bedbugs are unforgivable, avoid this place like the plague.

JUST AVOID. The place is GROSS and OVERPRICED. It seems like a jail. I found dirt, bedbugs, nails and mold under my bed. The vibe SUCKS. Only strange +35 men, they didn’t seem like travelers but people in difficult situations (that’s a shame but not the kind of place to be if you’re on vacation).
