Got bit by bed bugs here, checked out early and didn’t get a refund. It’s an amazing location, but doesn’t have a kitchen for food. Lots of partying and very social. Better than other hostels in the area just way overpriced

To be honest, I was highly disappointed with my stay. The experience seemed like it was meant for a certain group of people and the spaces were not inclusive. The staff was not welcoming, the formality of the hostel was frustrating, and it was overall not worth the money. The room feels painted over, facilities are not the best, and I found what appeared to be a bed bug in the room with photos. For the price point of this hostel I expected a drastic difference.

Was moved twice due to bed bug concerns. One guest (woman) was attacked by another guest (man) and they allowed him to stay in the hostel another night instead of kick him out. Bring good headphones and eye mask because parties go here until 4am with people coming in and out at all times

The rooms were very small with no room to lay out your stuff and allow people to pass. The storage area was super stiff to shut and quite small. But worst of all the insects in the room. I don’t mind seeing the odd ant around the hostel but up stairs in the room with multiple cockroaches and as well a couple of my roommates having bed bugs is just insane. Also the bathrooms were super small with mold

Very social and easy to meet people. Some of the staff are nice and others seem like you are bothering them to do their job.. there was one girl who was extremely rude while checking the beds in the room. The rooms are not clean, white stuff coming out from the floor which made our shoes sticky. There was a guest who had bedbugs in another room and she was simply moved to our room. I complained about this and the cleaning ladies came in the next day and sprayed something extremely strong which gave me a headaches when trying to sleep. The place is managed by what seem to be 18-20 year olds so do not expect the best service.

This place seems like a great time and has great events. However keep in mind they have bed bugs. Looked through around 10 pairs of sheets and they all had black dots on them and few with blood stains. Staff was willing to provide a refund and was very kind about it but they didn’t seem suprised by their infestation.

More Ipanema makes the most sense when Rio is the agenda: Ipanema location, beach/subway/restaurants close by, and a schedule that pushes you out into the city. The social signal is real: daily activities, hikes, stadium or football outings, parties, beach drinks, and enough solo travelers that making friends seems easy when the group is clicking. The best fit is a solo traveler or party-social traveler who wants plans more than polish. Maya and Victoria get specific love, and the downstairs bar/party setup can be a useful launchpad. During the day it can be more chilled; at night it can tilt party-centric. The tradeoff is facilities. Rooms can be small, basic, and damp; bathrooms are a repeated pain point; the kitchen/fridge situation is weak; and value can feel off for the price, especially when rates spike. Treat it as a social/location play, not a comfort-first stay. If you need quiet, deep cleaning, roomy dorms, or a work-friendly common area, this one may test your patience.

- Cleanliness is the main practical risk: rooms and bathrooms can smell damp, feel dirty, and have mold or pests.
