The hotel and room were clean and everything in order. However, when I woke up, my body was covered in bedbugs bites—from my legs to my face. I slept in the bottom bunk of a bunk bed.

Place is disgusting, dirty rooms, they simply DO NOT change the bed clothes from one to other guests!!! The 1st room was full of hair in the beds and they changed me instead of cleaning, so, I got to other room even worse, as there are many small hairs or "pentelhos" in all the beds surfaces and they are really really dirty with yellow marks of unwashed. In one of the beds, they have the audacity to put the linen on the other side, so they can keep using instead of washing. We have itchy skin because the bed has bedbugs and fleas, of course, because the bed linen is not clean and the bed also. THE HEATING in the room does not work, so it is COLD !!!!.. The location is very dangerous neigborhood, not convenient even to cross and to walk short distance. Also, the employees at night are rude and stupid, may wish to find another job.

MEININGER Marseille Centre la Joliette is more hotel-hostel hybrid than backpacker scene: big lobby, shared kitchen, group-friendly setup, breakfast, parking, and simple rooms near La Joliette, metro access, and Saint-Charles by foot or transit. It can work for families, school groups, and travelers who want practical Marseille logistics without a boutique price tag. The strongest upside is functional infrastructure. In the better rooms, the setup can be clean and modern, with private bathrooms, air-con, a useful kitchen, a large dining/lounge area, laundry, and staff who help in several languages. It is not the place for a deep local social scene, but it can be an easy staging area if the basics line up. The tradeoffs are loud and repeated. Thin walls, school groups, hallway noise, paid luggage storage, uneven breakfast, uncomfortable bedding, and staff friction come up a lot. The area is useful, but some travelers felt uneasy around it at night, especially women traveling alone.
