Got home with a skin rash from the beds. Not sure if it was bed bugs or something else.

I was bitten by fleas or bed bugs on several parts of my body. I have traveled to more than 60 countries, and this is only the second time this has happened. The first incident occurred in Africa, and I definitely did not expect this to happen in Helsinki.

On my last stay, during the first night, I woke up around 7 a.m. with my feet very itchy and uncomfortable. I couldn’t sleep even though I went to bed after midnight. Later, I realized I had many bed bug bites, more than 40 on both feet. It was very uncomfortable, and I had to use Aquaphor cream for about two weeks. I told the staff that morning; they were kind and tried to help, but I had to wait until after 11 a.m. to change rooms. Also, the hostel is on the third floor with no elevator, which makes it hard to carry luggage.

    There were bed bugs

Bed bugs!! On checkout you must strip your bed and I found a bed bug! No room in dorm to put your bags, only a tiny locker for passport etc, noisy being right next to the bathrooms, I stayed at yard hostel which was much nicer.

Vibe Analysis

A 19th-century Helsinki building gives Apartment by Hostel Diana Park its main personality: old-house charm, period details, and a central location that puts the city, train station, restaurants, supermarkets, and the sea within easy reach. Inside, the strongest parts are practical and low-key: friendly 24/7 staff, a clean setup, comfy beds in at least some rooms, luggage storage, and a kitchen-dining area that works well for cooking. The common space can feel cozy, with small touches like a second-hand corner, local maps, and a Helsinki puzzle. This is more quiet crashpad than social hostel. It can suit a short Helsinki stay where location, cleanliness, and a pretty old building matter more than events, nightlife, or a big hangout scene.

Signals to check

  • The kitchen closes at 23:00, and there may be no usable hangout area after that. 3 mentions Last mentioned Feb 3, 2026
  • Dorm privacy varies; some bunks have no curtains, and mixed-room placement may not match expectations. 3 mentions Last mentioned Apr 25, 2026
