Bed bug reports

Great hostel for socialising and drinking, if that’s what you like. No real privacy as there’s no curtains on the beds and nowhere to sit except the common area which is quite crammed. The bathrooms didn’t feel that clean and I’m pretty sure my bed had bed bugs. However it was in a great location and I had a great time and met wonderful people! The staff were good at organising events

clean bathrooms, good staff, atmosphere, breakfast but I found a bed bug on my leg in the morning and have some bites, definitely a shame

Much cleaner than over dive centres I’ve stayed at. However, I reported potential bed bugs (which for the record, I think I got the bed bug bites from a different hostel) via their WhatsApp number. I asked them to let me know if they found anything, and then they gave me the number of the front desk manager. I texted this number to check the message had been passed on. I’ve had no response and no messages since. Not very professional

Literally the best hostel in KL! Judith and Patrick are amazing, and the guests here really do feel like family. They also went above and beyond and moved me beds and even cleaned all of my stuff because of bed bugs that I got from the previous hostel I stayed at. Would absolutely recommend staying here!

Vibe Analysis
The pub crawl is the main event at Sunshine Bedz KL: an easy social launchpad in Bukit Bintang, with quiz nights and regular evening plans that make it simple to link up fast. It is especially strong for solo backpackers who want KL to feel less anonymous by night one. The location does a lot of heavy lifting. Bukit Bintang MRT is close by, malls, restaurants, Jalan Alor, convenience stores, and central sights are easy to reach, and the Petronas Towers are walkable if the heat is behaving. Staff can be warm and personal, with names like Wan, Patrick, and Marsha tied to a lot of the better energy here. Facilities are basic rather than polished. Expect an old-school hostel feel, clean-enough dorms and showers when the place is running well, air con in rooms, lockers, a fridge instead of a full shared kitchen, simple toast breakfast, and a rooftop or smoking terrace for hanging out. This is more social engine than boutique sleep lab.
Signals to check
- Dorm beds usually do not have privacy curtains, and blankets can be small or thin.
- Reception hours can be limited, with late check-in and early checkout needing extra patience.
- Rooms and bathrooms can feel cramped, dated, humid, or awkwardly laid out, with bathrooms sometimes far from dorms.
- WiFi may be weaker in rooms than in common areas.
- Noise can travel from the common area, street, or late-night social plans, so light sleepers may struggle.
