I think we got bed bugs from the hostel. The shared areaby the reception was potentially very nice, but it was filthy. The bin was overflowing and rubbish was on the floor. Considering how well run the restaurant was- good food and lovely staff -I was a bit taken aback!

The bed was fairly uncomfortable and small. I stayed on the bottom bunk, and anytime the person above me shifted, the whole bed would shake as well. The guests that I stayed with were not the nicest, but that’s not the hostels fault.

Vibe Analysis
Saucy Mary’s is basically a practical stopover on Skye: strong location at the island entrance, easy parking, sea views, and a pub/restaurant next door. It works well for a simple night or two while you move around the island. The staff often come across as friendly and helpful, and the food gets a fair bit of credit. The rooms are basic and the place feels old-school rather than polished, but for travelers who care more about convenience than comfort extras, it does the job.
Signals to check
- Rooms and bathrooms are often basic, and the bathroom may be outside the room or down the hall.
- The shared kitchen and common facilities can feel very limited for the price.
- Noise, worn interiors, and general upkeep can be rough.
