Sooo I was only there for one night and I came late, but it was really hard to communicate with the security guard, since he did not speak a word English. He still tried his best to explain though and the man at the checkout was really nice. The rooms are kind of clean, I saw some bug in the bed though. The toilets and showers however are really not good. no sign of soap and pretty s**t toilets overall. The building where everything was seemed kinda shady, too. For one night ok, nothing more tho

WORST NIGHT OF MY LIFE! BED BUGS! À FUIR I hate commenting but I have to! I don't recommend this youth hostel at all! I was staying there in July during the theatre festival and it was horrible. The location is amazing, but you pay 60 euros for a 8 m2 room and you get a small sticky room with dirty draft sheets. On top of that, my whole body was itching the wohle night and and I had many red spots "blessures" all over my body. They said that the travelers bring the bed bugs, it is not their fault. Avignon was my first travel destination this month so there is something not matching! They promised to block the room and they did not, the bed was made and given to people the same day as I got told later. On top of that one of my friends who was also staying in this hostel had the same problem a few days later. Now I am back home for a few weeks and I still have those bed bugs and I will now have to pay a lot of money to get them all killed with some expensive, very unhealthy chemics! Don't do that to yourself! Go camping, the camping place is amazing, the youth hostel very much the opposite!

Vibe Analysis
Auberge Bagatelle's strongest card is its Avignon setting: on Ile de la Barthelasse by the Rhone, close enough to walk over the bridge into the old city, with paths along the river and views toward the Palais des Papes. The shaded terrace and big trees can make it feel cooler and calmer than the center during festival heat. This is a simple, old-school auberge/camping setup, not a polished backpacker hub. It works best as a practical base for Avignon, school groups, training sessions, cyclists on the ViaRhona, or festival trips where location and price matter more than sleek rooms. Food and service are uneven but can be a real plus. Group meals, vegetarian options, picnic formulas, breakfast on the terrace, and warm help from Christine, Andre, Celine, and the service team all appear as bright spots. The social scene seems more accidental than engineered: a terrace, mixed clientele, and group energy rather than organized hostel rituals.

- Dorms and rooms can be dated, dark, hot, poorly ventilated, and short on power sockets.
- Wi-Fi may cost extra or be unavailable in the hostel building, and there may be no usable kitchen or lockers.
